Holiday Inn Basildon

I’ve stayed here at least eight times and have always had a good experience, largely thanks to the friendly, helpful staff. The dining room is clean and welcoming, and the morning restaurant team are especially accommodating. Christina, Marina, Patricia and Sandra always greet you with a smile and make sure breakfast is just right. They’re real assets to the hotel.

The room was clean, though the bathroom was on the small side. The buffet breakfast was very good, but could you add non-dairy butter? Check-in was smooth and the breakfast room staff were great. The hotel was full, yet everyone remained attentive and polite. Another excellent stay, even if it was only one night. Hope to come back soon.

Thayn and Jess deserve a special thank you for making sure my food was allergen-free. Thayn took the time to help adjust the options to fit my dietary restrictions. The Holiday Inn, Basildon team also kept everyone fed and watered during our board game convention, bringing food to the tables and clearing plates promptly so we could stay focused on playing.

The view over the water and grassy area was lovely, and the room itself was clean and fresh. We got an upgrade to a king-size room, though it was two twin beds pushed together, with a noticeable gap in the middle. There wasn't a separate bed for our child, which surprised me, though we were able to share. The beds were comfortable, and there was WiFi, a large smart TV we could use with our own accounts, Dove hand soap, shower gel and shampoo, plus clean white towels. The casting feature wouldn't work, and the shower was really slow. The room also needs a softer night light. The light over the headboard was very bright, so we left the bathroom light on instead. Our biggest issue was the noise next door. It sounded like a group of young people were playing music, talking and laughing for hours. I'm sure they were having a great time, but my seven-year-old didn't get to sleep until 10:20 pm, and we had to be up at 5:30 for a busy, important day. I called reception twice after it continued past 10, but nobody answered. The walls are so thin we could literally hear someone peeing next door. Poor planning by the hotel, and we'll look for somewhere else next time. I just hope the lack of sleep doesn't spoil the next day.
