Staff were excellent at sorting things out. We were moved for the second night, and that room was much better, good enough that it would have earned five stars. The first room had a faulty bathroom extractor that sounded like a demented wasp and didn’t extract anything. The coffee machine leaked water everywhere, so I had to use the kettle despite paying extra for a room with a coffee machine. Breakfast on the second morning wasn’t as good as the first, and had probably been sitting on the buffet for a while.

Everyone made me feel at home in Basingstoke, and I can’t rate the staff more highly. The front desk, bar and restaurant teams were lovely, as were the fitness team and everyone at Starbucks and The V Works. Thank you for making this Londoner feel so welcome.

The food was good, and the pool is a decent size, with two 20m lanes for proper swimming. The rooms are really nice, including the glass wall into the bathroom, which can bring more light into the room or turn translucent at the touch of a button. It’s a lovely modern hotel, and one of my favourites when I’m travelling around the country for work.

We had a really enjoyable couples stay on Friday night and left feeling refreshed after a short break from family life. We made use of the huge gym, swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. Breakfast was a good usual hot and cold buffet, with plenty of choice. The rooms were nice and up to date, reception staff super friendly, and the bar and restaurant lively with good staff and a big screen showing sports and news. Shame it costs £10 each to play darts! We’ll visit again.

There’s a good atmosphere, and the comfortable rooms have everything you need, including Sky Sports in the room. The bar feels a lot like a sports bar. They also have a gym, so depending on your room, you might get an early wake-up call when it gets going. It’s a good hotel, and I’ll stay again.
