The Quarter by Warren Collection

We left early and booked another hotel because this room was completely unsuitable for a couple on a weekend away. It was advertised as a small double, but the bed was only a three-quarter size. One of us had to sleep squeezed against the wall while the other was nearly falling out. I later saw the hotel call this a “UK Queen”, but that isn’t a UK bed size. The sizes here are single, three-quarter, double, and king, and this was a three-quarter. Anyone over 5’5 should expect to curl up or have their feet stick out. If the size had been clear, we wouldn’t have booked. There was mould on the ceiling, which was especially unacceptable as I have asthma and am sensitive to mould. The bathroom fan didn’t work, so it stayed very damp after showers and smelled strongly with no air circulation. The pillows were either rock hard and far too big, or the extra ones were flat and left both of us with sore necks. Staff were disappointing too. They didn’t stand up to greet us when we arrived and told us we were on the wrong floor. The place felt like a glorified hostel, suitable only if you’re out for the night and don’t care where you sleep, or just passing through. It wasn’t right for us as a couple trying to have a weekend away, and we checked out early to get a decent night’s sleep and salvage the trip.

Our bedroom was lovely, but the bathroom smell was unbearable. It came up from the shower drain, sink, and toilet, especially after flushing, and smelled like a Portaloo at a festival. I tried to cover it with body spray. The shower also drained so badly that we had to keep stopping it. The hotel has offered us a free night at any location after I spoke to them. I paid an extra £45 for the celebration package for my daughter. For that money we got two cans of cola, a box of chocolates, a balloon, a banner, and a card. The card was signed from the hotel, which took some of the magic away. It should just have said happy birthday, not from the Warren collection. The package was a Bismil for the price, and I’ve had much better quality from other hotels offering the same thing. I’ve attached a picture, but this really wasn’t money well spent. The continental breakfast needs work as well. Around 08:45 we checked both kitchens mentioned at check-in, but there was almost nothing except cereal. We went back with a very hungry child, then saw one kitchen being restocked with Tesco value items. The cold meats were the cheapest Tesco option and not pleasant. The next morning, after 9am, there was more available, but the meat was still poor quality.

I had to cancel a short two-day booking because of unexpected circumstances, but the property wouldn’t offer any flexibility or partial refund. I understand non-refundable terms, though I think customer service should allow some human consideration when a situation is genuine. That didn’t happen here. Customer support stuck rigidly to policy and made no effort to find a fair solution. I hadn’t checked the property’s 3.9 rating before booking. After this experience, I understand it.

I’m writing for my daughter, who booked the property. Just two days after she paid and made the reservation, a scammer used her personal booking details, including her name and stay dates. This was a serious failure to protect her data. She no longer felt safe staying there and promptly asked to cancel and get a refund. The property refused to refund even one night and showed no compassion, despite the safety and data protection concerns. This wasn’t a casual cancellation or change of mind, it followed directly from her information being compromised. As her mother, I’m deeply concerned that guest safety seemed to matter less than profit. I’d urge others to think about the risks before booking.
