The lodge was lovely, with beautiful views and tidy grounds. Inside, it was spacious and nicely decorated, with comfy beds, robes and slippers in the bedrooms. There was a shower room as well as a separate WC. Check-in was quick, and everyone working there was friendly and attentive. We booked a standard two-bedroom lodge for the weekend and were very happy with it. We'll definitely come back.

A modern, clean hotel with nice facilities, friendly staff, comfortable beds and good-sized rooms. We had a relaxing weekend in a nice location. Our one issue was the agreed booking price. A year after we booked, and just one week before our stay, they contacted us to say there had been an error and wouldn't honour that price. I understand mistakes happen, but the late notice was unacceptable. Their customer service needs to improve.

I waited two weeks after my first follow-up, then contacted the hotel again and was told someone would get back to me. Another two weeks passed with no response, so I'm posting this because my complaint seems to have received the same treatment as my stay. When I called the day after our visit, 6th February, I was told it would go to the relevant department and someone would be in touch soon. My wife and I stayed on 5th February, using a Christmas gift from our daughter: an overnight stay with a meal and breakfast. We'd been to the hotel for a wedding before and thought it looked fantastic, so we were looking forward to it. Check-in and the room were fine. At dinner, we both ordered steak pie and strawberry tart. The pie was okay, though not great, and the crunchy vegetables were soft. We ate what we could. After our plates were cleared, we waited almost 35 minutes for dessert. The waitresses seemed unsure of their roles and rushed around, and one dropped a plate and looked flustered. When I finally got someone's attention, she asked if we wanted a drink, since ours were empty. We asked for dessert and ordered another drink while we had the chance. The meal took an hour and 45 minutes for two courses, even though the first arrived after about 10 minutes. The restaurant wasn't very busy, and I counted about five or six servers and one manager. Breakfast was disappointing too. We were shown to a table and told it was a buffet. I couldn't work out the coffee machine, so asked the girl in charge. She said she was covering and didn't know how to use it, but would contact someone. While she did that, we found hot water and made tea. The hot buffet was lukewarm, and the fried eggs were inedible. There were no side plates for toast, and we didn't like the taste of the brown sauce sachets. We ate what we could, collected our things and checked out. I've stayed in a lot of hotels and had much better experiences at what you'd call budget hotels. For the price and the grandeur of this establishment, I expected at least the same standard, if not better. The colleagues seemed inexperienced, and the newer ones lacked guidance. The food offering should be much better. I didn't want to leave a review for two reasons. My daughter gave us this Christmas present, and I wouldn't want her to see a review and think we weren't grateful. I also hoped the hotel would take this constructively and use it to improve. Thanks for taking the time to read this, it's turned into a bit of a novel 😀. I hope you use it in the right way.

The Christmas decorations were stunning, and the festive feel cheered us both up. Not a spot in the hotel or grounds seemed to be missing them. I stayed last night with a friend on a DBB deal. We've stayed with friends many times, and I've also been here with my husband.

The rooms were immaculate and cosy, and the beds were so comfortable I slept like a baby. The hotel itself was stunning, and every staff member we met was welcoming, cheerful and professional. We went to the curry and comedy night, which was fantastic. Beautiful venue, tasty food, an amazing DJ and hilarious comedians. Can't wait to come back. Thank you, Dawn and Paul
