The reception has a mini library I loved, and it was easy to pick up more tea and coffee there. Parking was free and the location was great. My room had plenty of space, windows that opened and heating I could control. Best of all, there was a discreet bottle opener attached to the desk! The staff were lovely, warm and efficient, and cleanliness was to a high standard. Breakfast was fresh, quickly served and beautifully presented, with a good choice and quality. I arrived just as the restaurant opened, though, so that may have helped with the speed. The portions looked and felt small, but I was full after eating what I ordered. There were plenty of reasonably priced extras if you needed more. I booked several weeks ahead and got an excellent rate for four non-refundable nights. The food otherwise seemed to go from freezer to table, but it was exceptionally cheap, well presented and more than palatable. A very pleasant stay, thank you.

I can’t fault the staff, and the receptionist was very polite, but this last stay at thelpsham premier inn was poor compared with my previous visits. My check-in was delayed because another guest said there were insects on his bed. The receptionist told him the only alternative premier inn would cost double. I arrived too late for the restaurant, and even the bar had shut shortly after 10pm. The hotel looks more like a cheap travel lodge, with spare tea bags piled behind reception in clear plastic boxes. It didn’t feel professional, and the room was very basic. I won’t stay at this hotel again.

The restaurant was good, with a great steak and lovely waitresses. Mary at reception was lovely too, just the warm, friendly face you need after a long day. I’ll definitely visit again when I’m in the area! 👍

The shower was a pleasure to use, with strong pressure from a large thermostatic head over the bath. I slept well for all three nights, and the bed was okay. The room was clean and tidy, but there was a strong damp, mouldy smell as soon as I walked in. After about ten minutes I stopped noticing it, then it hit me again whenever I returned. The air conditioning and heating unit only made a loud noise and didn’t work, so I left it off. There was no toilet roll, just cheap tissue squares in a wall dispenser. On the second night the toilet blocked. I told a woman at reception, who said she’d sort it within half an hour while I was out and leave fresh towels too. When I got back just after 7pm, neither had been done. I had to ask again on my way out to the pub and restaurant in the adjoining building. The woman at the desk, who looked to be in her late 50s, did unblock the toilet and leave fresh towels before I returned. The pub and restaurant close at 10pm on weekdays and 9pm on Sundays. I don’t know about Saturdays, as I was there Sunday to Wednesday. I didn’t eat at the restaurant, so can’t comment on breakfast or evening meals. It might be okay for an overnight work stay for contractors, but for a getaway or for business professionals looking for somewhere to stay, it’s a dump and a huge disappointment. It’s the worst place I’ve ever stayed, and my first time using a premier inn will be my last. There’s nothing premier about it. It seems to be run by a small skeleton crew who are struggling to keep the place going. Bear in mind this is an April review, so it might be different in the summer.

For the price, I guess you get what you get 😆 The staff were nice and helpful, and I loved the charity collection bag in the room. More places should do things like that. But the bathroom was in poor condition, with mould all above the shower, and there was a yellow stain on the bedsheet. There’s no lift either. I wouldn’t have booked if I’d known, as I’m disabled.
