Boston West Hotel

I've stayed at this hotel five times and noticed improvements on each visit. The staff have always been helpful, and there's a good-sized car park. The rooms are clean, though they could use redecorating. They come with tea and coffee facilities, a hairdryer, heated towel rail, plenty of hot water, free-to-view TV and free WiFi. The buffet breakfast looks much better now, and I'm looking forward to trying the new Bistro Menu in October.

We stayed for two nights, and the children loved the facilities around the complex. The grounds were clean and well kept, and the food and cocktails were delicious. I thought the price was good value too. The rooms had everything we needed, and the beds were really comfortable. We weren't bothered by noise at all. They were cleaned to a good standard, though I did spot the odd little thing. I'm a housekeeping manager, so maybe I'm pickier than most, but it didn't affect our stay. Even with the building being so warm, the staff kept things up to standard. The small touches, like folded towels and the ends of the toilet rolls, make a difference. Everyone we dealt with was friendly and polite. We'll definitely be back. Thanks for such an enjoyable stay.

This was our third stay here, and easily the worst. The room itself was nice and the bed was very comfortable, but the bathroom let it down. I know mould can be hard to keep out of bath sealant and grout, but the mould growing on the tiles should have been easy to clean. The cold tap was completely broken. Cleaning staff said they'd known for a few days and were waiting for a part, and one was surprised nobody had told us at check-in. The rest of the stay was pleasant until breakfast. My partner's scrambled eggs were fine, but the toast was soggy and didn't seem toasted at all. I ordered eggs Benedict, which arrived looking like a plate of slop. I hate sending food back, but I showed them a photo of what it should look like. The replacement was better, though still very wet. Never again for breakfast, and I'll avoid the restaurant in future.

I stayed here for a nearby 60th birthday party and was overcharged. The room had lights that didn't work, bathroom traces left by previous guests, a toilet that wouldn't flush and dead sockets. It was the worst experience, and I won't stay here again or recommend that anyone else does.
