Bowburn Hall Hotel

We ended up leaving because I felt threatened. The couple in the next room kept the music loud and shouted and argued for a couple of hours. After we knocked to ask them to turn it down, they threatened us, punched our door and wall, then turned the music up and said they'd sort us out later. The walls were thin, and reception didn't answer any of our three calls, or the later one we made. My husband wanted to stay and get it sorted, but I'd had enough. At reception, we told a young man what had happened and he barely said anything. The following day the hotel told us someone would be in touch, but nobody ever got back to us. It's a shame, and we were very disappointed. It was bad luck how it worked out. Before all that, our room was comfortable and the staff had been friendly and welcoming when we arrived on Saturday 27th December. At first, we were looking forward to the stay, so it had started out lovely.

I won't be back, as a local in shincliffe. For £18.95, the chicken parmesans were awful, bland and tasteless, with portions barely half a chicken breast each. There were three of them among our meals. I visited with 12 other family members for a birthday meal, and we'd pre-ordered everything a week ahead. When we complained, the staff member said, "tell the chef not me!" Tiny portions, too.

The restaurant has a nice decor, and the food was great. There was a very good mix of traditional and modern dishes. A very nice hotel.

Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The room was small, with dirty, stained walls, and things in it were broken or missing. The staff weren't very welcoming either. It was definitely far too expensive for what the hotel is worth. Not the best hotel. :(
