About this property

An enchanting Cotswold retreat in the picturesque town of Burford, few could resist the rustic charm of this 16th century residence, whether it is for a leisure break, business trip or special occasion. Bay Tree won Small Hotel of the Year at the National Enjoy England Excellence Awards 2011. The hotel also has a Gold Award for Excellence from Enjoy England. The Bay Tree is steeped in history and awash with character, from the foundations of its mellow stone walls - clad with pinkish-purple wisteria blooms - to its wooden beam rafters. Oak-panelled public rooms, bare stone walls and original stone fireplaces, including an inglenook fireplace, provide a textured canvas upon which rich fabrics, woven tapestries and antiques have been laid down with exquisite flair. For your relaxation, you can select a good book from the hotel library, sink back into a comfortable chair and allow the stresses of everyday life to gradually seep away. In the summer months, the tranquillity of the walled gardens make for a relaxing haven where you can enjoy a refreshing drink on a warm evening.

On the wedding day, everything looked beautiful and came together just as we’d hoped. Our guests still talk about the lovely food and generous portions, and many noticed how smoothly the day ran thanks to the team. We first visited The Bay Tree after its wedding fair, and even after looking at a few other nearby venues, nothing else felt as right. At the open day, Becky walked us through the venue and explained how the day would flow, which made us feel reassured. We shared our vision with her beforehand, and she and the team brought it to life perfectly. Becky was wonderful throughout, always at the end of the phone when we needed her and such a lovely person to work with. We’re so glad we chose The Bay Tree, and would recommend it to anyone. We’re looking forward to coming back for special occasions or just because. Thanks to Becky and all the team. Dans & Amelia x

The Bay Tree Hotel has a relaxed, welcoming feel, with thoughtful decor and a comfortable place to sit over lunch or dinner. The food is great, and friendly service makes the visit easy from start to finish. Quietly rated: worth stopping.

The gardens were stunning and made a lovely backdrop for our photos. Inside, the space looked gorgeous on the day, bright and beautiful, even better than we’d imagined. The hotel has plenty of charm, and the staff helped us get everything set up. We held our wedding at The Bay Tree Hotel in September, and the whole experience was perfect. Everyone was friendly, professional and helpful throughout. Laura, the wedding coordinator, deserves a special mention. She was organised, calm and supportive, and made things feel effortless. Nothing was too much trouble, and we felt very well looked after. We couldn’t recommend it more as a wedding venue.

The restaurant and reception staff were helpful with my intolerance to Rapeseed Oil and advised me which meals I could have. Sean was particularly helpful in the evening, and Tracey at breakfast. One thing to know is that the car park entrance is down a narrow lane beside the hotel. If you have a particularly big car or are nervous driving, there’s free parking on the road. We stayed for one night on March 3rd 2025 and were very impressed. The food was excellent, the staff very good, and the rooms comfortable, though old-fashioned and quaint. The bed was a standard king, which felt a little cramped compared with the Super Kingsized bed my wife and I have at home. We asked about it and were shown a couple of rooms with bigger beds, so next time we’ll ask for one of those.
