A friend from Leeds helped me find you again recently, and I wanted to say thank you. I don’t know whether the same staff from 2008 are still there, but I’ll always remember this as the place where I had my first “real” beer and meal after returning from my last Marine combat deployment in Afghanistan. The staff were so pleasant, and genuinely surprised to see us. When they heard how I’d ended up there and what I’d been through just hours earlier, they kindly gave us our first round and my lasagna on the house to thank us for our service. We were Americans, but they welcomed us warmly all the same, and I’ll never forget it. The atmosphere was great, the crowd was awesome, and the staff made it special. It’s a fantastic place to visit. 10/10, would recommend!

During my work move to the area, I needed somewhere to stay while I found a home, and I had my two cats with me. The Bell was one of the options I was given and was the most convenient for temporary lodging near work. I wasn’t expecting much, but my stay with Kim, Mike and their lovely team was outstanding. I gathered during my stay that the hotel I’d read about in older reviews and the one I experienced were very different. Kim and Mike took over ownership a year or two ago, and the family-style team has been working hard to improve the reputation they inherited. This isn’t a four or five star hotel, and doesn’t pretend to be. There’s no bar in the room or massive TV, but downstairs there’s a pub and bar with rich wood finishes and an engaging staff who are ready to ask how you are and what might help. Starlink covers the hotel, and the internet was fast compared with an average three-star hotel. I could work and play at high bandwidth without interruptions or connection problems. Pet-friendly rooms have extra space for animals to move around or hide, at a very reasonable price. Rooms were kept clean, with fresh towels, vacuuming and bed turn-down daily. Staff knocked in the mornings if you were in and hadn’t put a sign on the door. Residents can easily get in and out through a hard-locking door, including late-night smokers going to the outside patio. The pub has a restaurant too, with draft beer, tap options, mixed drinks and friendly conversation. Staff and patrons made me feel at home, and regulars came in every night to eat and drink. Rob, the chef, never made a meal I didn’t finish quickly. His English dinner on Sundays is something you must try. People look out for you here, even as a passing guest, and make being away from home feel less daunting and more homely. Within a block or so there are two grocery and corner stores, KFC, Dominoes, a coffeeshop, two proper barbershops and more. St. Andrews Cafe is just around the corner, where I’d go for breakfast. The Bell is also well placed for trips to Ely, Brandon and the surrounding towns. Kim and her staff know the area and gave me good recommendations while I was there for a while. Parking is free and private in a convenient park behind the hotel, with easy access from a one-way road. Even on busy event nights, I always found a space. The hotel is pet friendly, has Starlink internet, a pub and restaurant, and free parking. The family atmosphere includes regulars bringing relatives young and old. It doesn’t get too loud, and you can just stay in the hotel without using the bar or restaurant. It’s close to everything. Bell staff, thanks for making me feel like family. I won’t forget you.

We had another lovely Sunday lunch at The Bell today. Laura was amazing serving us, Robs roast was delicious, and Evie’s service was perfect. Thanks to all of you @ The Bell.

It was always a pleasure spending time in the pub, with several draft options. The kitchen clearly takes pride in its work, and it shows in every meal. We never had a bad one. The food goes beyond standard pub fare, with different flavours and styles that turn out exceptionally well. The team was welcoming and friendly, and the rooms were nice. There are pet-friendly options, and being right in the town centre is a nice bonus.

I only stopped in for evening drinks, but had a great time. The John Smiths was an excellent pint. Can’t wait to come back!
