Carbis Bay and Spa Hotel

Everything felt easy and relaxed during our lovely stay at Carbis Bay Hotel for my fiancé’s 40th. Racula, Freya, Maxine, and Jand really stood out, along with a kind, helpful restaurant staff member, an Asian girl with glasses. The service was great throughout, and the spa was clean and beautifully kept. The views were picturesque, too. We’d definitely return.

The pods are great for a getaway, comfortable, and we’ll be back. Check-in went smoothly, and the chap who showed us to our Hare Pod in St Ives was attentive and knew his stuff. We asked for breakfast the next morning, which was great. We’d planned to eat at the hotel on Saturday, but the kids spotted the takeaway menu and that decided things. The food was fantastic and service great; ordering on the in-house iPad worked perfectly. The hotel also WhatsApped us about Sunday breakfast, and they even sorted extra butter when we asked. Every detail was taken care of, nothing was too much trouble.

My sister and I paid £95 each for a spa day this week and came away really underwhelmed. The only good part was the massages. The pool was freezing, the ‘hot tub’ barely warm, and with all the facilities outside, early February wasn’t much fun. There was also a lot of maintenance happening around the pool areas. The receptionist wasn’t friendly, then followed us into the changing rooms and stayed there, which made us uncomfortable. Drinks were ridiculously overpriced: £15 for one glass of poor-quality sparkling wine being passed off as Prosecco. I wouldn’t return or recommend it.

The hotel is beautiful, and the sea and beach views, along with the walks, have made this our happy place. The long trip is worth it when we arrive at the bottom of the hill and see the sea and that beach. The staff have always been accommodating and friendly. Lesley was our first contact and still comes to say hello when we arrive. We spent a couple of days here last November and have booked again for this coming February. Can’t wait to return.
