The staff were attentive and lovely, and dinner was a real highlight. The lamb pinwheels and burger were cooked just right, with generous portions, and dessert was amazing. Breakfast was great too. We booked at the last minute for dinner, bed and breakfast, and found the room cozy, with a comfortable bed and pillows. We had a lovely stay.

We were staying nearby and ended up eating at the Wheatsheaf two nights running. The friendly staff and excellent pub food made us glad we came back, especially the lamb pinwheels. On the first night we joined in the quiz and had good fun. The second night, we sat in a section that was soon taken over by a local football club committee meeting. They had reserved one table, which turned out to be too small for everyone, and the rest of the bar was quite empty. Staff could perhaps have warned us so we could choose another spot, since moving once we had our food would have felt awkward. It was fine, though, and we overheard some entertaining anecdotes.

The location worked perfectly for our early start with Bibbys coaches the next day. We were warmly welcomed on a cold, wet evening, and the restaurant food was nice. The beds were incredibly comfortable, with no complaints there, but the room needed attention. The dim low-energy bulb made a poor first impression, there was damp high on the wall and the wallpaper was starting to peel, and the lamp between the beds looked as if it hadn't been dusted in months. The bathroom sink light didn't work, the toilet was squeezed into a cramped corner, and the shower cubicle could use some care. We stayed one night in December. The room let the place down, even though the location was ideal for us.

We only stopped briefly for a drink after the barman put out a sign saying "dogs welcome" as we walked past. The pint was nice, and the man behind the bar came over to greet our dog and give her a treat. A quick visit, but a very pleasant one.

The breakfast was fab, with a good mix of hot and cold food, and the quality was among the best we've had. Every staff member was amazing, and I'd stay again. The room was large and clean, and well stocked with a great choice of teas, coffees and hot chocolate. What a great place to stay.
