The room was comfortable, and the host made us feel welcome. I liked the old building's quirky character. Really, that's all you can ask for. 🙏

Breakfast was just right, and the room was spotless. We were greeted so warmly, and the location worked really well. Thanks, James, for looking after us. June and Dorian

Some of the rooms have very low ceilings, so it's easy to bump your head getting out of bed. In a few rooms the bathroom is outside the bedroom and reached by stairs, which was inconvenient at night and could be uncomfortable for older guests. The late check-in arrangements were the hardest part of our stay. After a long day on the road, we called around 8:30 pm to say we were still a long way off and expected to arrive around 11 to 11:30 pm. The listing says check-in after 10 pm is possible for a £20 fee. The owner got angry and kept saying it was at their “discretion” and they wouldn't be “held at ransom,” their exact words. They said they wouldn't wait beyond 10:30 pm because they wanted to sleep, even if that left our group of five without a place for the night. We drove as fast as was safe and kept them informed. They eventually pushed the cutoff to 11 pm, but made it clear nobody would answer the phone or open the door after that. Travelling in a foreign country, that rigid and hostile response felt like the opposite of hospitality. This was unfortunately the worst stay of our UK trip, and I strongly recommend avoiding the place.

The owners, James and Catherine, made us feel at home in this characterful 1700s property, and the guest house is right in the centre of Chard. We stayed in family bedroom 6, which was spacious and very clean, with a large comfortable bed, nice linen and its own adjoining bathroom. The bathroom was exceptionally clean and the power shower was fantastic. It was quiet, with opening windows and a fan, and had what we needed for both girls and guys. Breakfast was delicious and the service from the owners was wonderful. James recommended the Bath hotel restaurant, which was exceptional and a must find place. We had an excellent stay and highly recommend it. Thanks, we'll be back for sure.

The family room was roomy and really clean, and the hosts were lovely. Breakfast was superb. This cosy B&B was five star in every way, and we'll definitely return.
