We booked here partly because it serves Bitburger, a German lager, and I wasn't disappointed. My partner likes Neck Oil, which was on tap too, so we were both happy. The bar also has local and national craft beers and ciders. Glen greeted us when we arrived, showed us to our rooms, and explained everything. He was fantastic and pleasant throughout. The rooms were clean, comfortable, well laid out, and had plenty of space. We all enjoyed our meal in the bar, with first-class service and food I couldn't fault. We stayed for one Saturday night, and I'd highly recommend the place.

The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the pub has great real ales. The food is excellent, with plenty of choice. What a gem, a lovely pub with really nice rooms and service. I'd recommend it to anyone.

The Compasses has a lovely, almost idyllic setting, with friendly staff and a terrific atmosphere. I had a great visit, and the beer was splendid. The fish and chips were excellent too.

I was here for work and found the room quiet, comfortable and great. I had a lovely evening stroll and enjoyed training on my bike along the local lanes. I didn't eat in the pub, though it looked really good.

There's a relaxed local feel, friendly staff and an open fire. This is a real Essex countryside gem, with good real ales and food. They're known for giant huffer baps with lots of filling choices, and also serve other homemade main meals.
