We chose a spacious, comfortable duplex cottage as our superior room. The setting is beautiful, with lovely walks nearby. We walked to upper slaughter and back, and Clarkson brewery is a 10-15 minute walk away. The hotel was clean and well maintained, and the service was very good. The meal was the big disappointment. My partner and I each ordered the £39 sirloin, so £78 between us. We asked for medium rare, but both steaks came blue. They were fatty and chewy, and the chips were hard and undercooked. We told the waitress, but there was no offer to take the cost off the bill or provide a complimentary dessert. At that price, we expected a good steak.

Lower Slaughter gets very busy for such a tiny village, so parking can be hard even in winter. We took a chance without booking, and the pub was packed when we arrived. A gentleman moved a little coffee table and two chairs so we could have lunch without waiting, which we really appreciated. We both chose veggie options: I had a baguette and my friend had the couscous salad. Both were lovely. The salad looked so good that I think I’ll order it next time. Thanks for fitting us in. My friend brought me here because I’d never visited before, and I’ll book ahead in future.

We spent a lovely couple of days here for a surprise birthday trip for my wife. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and the front desk gave us walking maps. We did a 10km loop through Upper Slaughter, Ashton and Bourton-on-the-Water, stopping there for tea and cake before returning to The Inn. The restaurant was excellent for both of our evening meals, and our bed-and-breakfast rate worked well. Our annex room was very nice, with a huge comfortable bed, a large bath and a separate shower. Lower Slaughter is a quiet, beautiful Cotswolds village, smaller than some, with a Mill due to open again soon and another hotel. The main thing missing is EV charging. We weren’t travelling far, so it was fine for us, but it would be hopeless if you had a long journey.

We’ve stayed here quite a few times over the years and would still recommend it. The breakfasts are nice, the staff are friendly, and the accommodation is generally good, though it wasn’t as clean as usual on our last visit. It’s in a lovely spot in one of the prettiest Cotswolds villages, and it remains our go-to hotel when we’re in the area. The bar has lost some of its cosy feel since the current owners bought the hotel. The floorboards were replaced with soulless tiles, and the tables and chairs look cheap, don’t really match, or aren’t comfortable. The two fires are still good, but you can’t sit comfortably near them like you used to.

The food was delicious, though a little pricey if you’re watching your budget. I thought the breakfast was absolutely fantastic, and the staff throughout were polite, welcoming and professional. There are lovely wood fires in the bar for winter evenings. I was travelling alone and would thoroughly recommend staying here. It’s easy to find and has plenty of parking. From reception to the bar and restaurant, everyone made me feel at home. My room was fantastic, warm after a cold day in the countryside, with a comfy bed and 5* amenities. I’d absolutely recommend it and hope to come back soon.
