The continental breakfast was lovely, and there was plenty to eat. The woman serving that morning was friendly and chatty, too. The restaurant downstairs also makes beautiful pizzas, so we’ll stay for one next time. I stayed at The First Hurdle guest house on Saturday (24th Nov). The welcome when I arrived was fantastic. Room 6 was warm, nicely decorated and very clean, with a comfortable bed and, best of all, a powerful shower with lovely hot water. You don’t often get that in hotels. The old buildings around Chepstow haven’t always been updated, but this guest house has been while keeping its character. I’ll definitely stay again. Thanks for a lovely visit. 💖

All the staff were so nice. The young man and chef at check-in were especially lovely and really helpful. My room was clean and had everything I needed. I was staying for balter festival and was glad I found this place. Breakfast the next day had a nice selection: cereal, toast, coffee and continental items, with a lovely woman running it. I thoroughly enjoyed the stay, and I’ll try the pizza next time!

After seeing the negative reviews, I thought it was okay. The staff are lovely and gave me a friendly welcome, and there’s a nice bar for a beer. I didn’t try the pizzas, though they looked banging. The room was fine, if a little tired, and the bed was okay but could be more comfortable. Breakfast was a basic continental one, with room for more choice. We paid £110, which felt a bit steep, though we chose to pay it. With a few small changes, I’d have no problem paying £100 🙂

Staff were very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was good too. The guest house is in a great spot. The room door was a little difficult to open, but otherwise it was a great place to stay for a couple of days.

The breakfast staff were excellent, but the state of room 11 and its bedding was appalling. My wife and I stayed at the First hurdle guest house for one night on 4th August, and for £85 a night it was certainly not worth the price. The pillows were yellow and had no protectors. There was a lot of uncleaned fluff under the furniture, thin cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, and a small broken pane in the shower room window, patched with what looked like cardboard or something similar and painted white. The bathroom unit’s veneer had peeled away from the top. The whole room looked very shabby and needs a complete makeover. We were very disappointed.
