Holiday Inn Chester South

The staff were really nice and friendly, but the food was awful. Honestly, if you stay here, don’t eat at the restaurant. The soup had chunks of some strange material. I made the mistake of ordering a well-done steak and got something like new tyres for my car. Dessert seemed straight from the cheapest Lidl shelf, drowned in tasteless custard-like soup. Breakfast was the usual tasteless, dry, overcooked fare. The hotel left me with a strange aftertaste. From outside it looks like a 1930s barracks with a modern lobby, while the halls and rooms feel like the 1960s Soviet Union Relaxation Centre “Romashka.” The swimming pool seems not to have been updated since sometime before I was born. Would I stay again? Hopefully not.

The twin room was modern, clean and really comfortable. When booking, it had been marked as ‘cannot be guaranteed’ and said we might get a double instead. I was travelling with my special needs brother, who needed his own bed, and cancelling to book elsewhere would have meant losing the full payment. I emailed the Hotel directly to explain, and they said they’d make sure we got twin beds. The staff were pleasant and friendly, and we had a really good experience overall. We ate in the reception bar area both nights, with fast, friendly service and excellent food. The first night we had pizza and the Beef Encounter Burger, both excellent. I thought a pint of lager was pretty expensive at £6.00. When I pulled into the car park, the building looked dark, foreboding and unwelcoming, but inside the reception bar and common areas were bright, modern and welcoming. Lucy at reception helped us plan a trip to Liverpool, showing us bus and train timetable routes. The staff at the Wrexham Road Holiday Inn were really friendly and helpful, and we’d certainly use the hotel again. We had a clean, comfortable room with all the amenities and a nice welcome message on arrival. Onsite parking meant we didn’t need the car while we were there, and bus stops close by made it easy to get to the city centre. Posting this for my mom and dad. Thanks for making his birthday great!

The hotel was easy to get to by car, and although there aren’t many parking spaces, I had no trouble parking during my stay. There was no phone signal at all. I stayed in two different rooms, and in both of them the Wi-Fi only worked for me in the bathroom, though it worked in the restaurant.
