Breakfast was absolutely first class, and the staff deserve praise. They were clearly well trained and motivated, and a real credit to the hotel. The restaurant and bar look excellent, with a lot invested in creating a high-quality setting. The food was also very good, though priced accordingly. We booked two superior rooms for one night to celebrate an 80th birthday. They were spacious and tastefully decorated, and the hotel itself is very nice, with excellent decor throughout. It seems clearly geared towards weddings and events. Unfortunately, our dinner for five coincided with an event, and service seemed to suffer under the pressure. Dishes arrived at different times, some items were missing, and some food never arrived. There were long delays and complaints before we were eventually compensated. It was a shame, especially as the restaurant was quiet and mains cost £30+. Peak Edge came across as a very nice wedding and event hotel that also accommodates other guests, rather than the other way round.

We were charged for a meal we didn’t eat, after a terrible experience that ruined the birthday. The manager was rude and handled our complaint appallingly. The staff generally came across as unpleasant, and the restaurant felt incredibly stuck up. The waitresses seemed more focused on fixing their appearance and asking each other how they looked than welcoming guests. They were arrogant, rude and completely unprofessional. Food took ages, despite staff milling around, and when it arrived it was dry and tasteless. Our salad had no proper salad ingredients, just a few dry pieces of chicken over a handful of leaves. When we asked them to make it into a real salad, the waitress said they couldn’t incorporate it and reluctantly took it back. They added half a tiny cherry tomato and a piece of cucumber cut into four. The mushy peas were just small peas in sauce. We won’t return. Avoid.

The food was excellent at dinner, with an extensive menu, and breakfast the next morning was a great full English. A big party in the function room didn’t affect our dinner or service at all. The staff were attentive, well trained, smart and well groomed, which was a pleasure compared with the lack of polish at many other places. We met up with friends for an overnight reunion last Thursday. Peak Edge Hotel was reasonably central for us all, and the welcome at reception was warm and friendly. Our room was superb and the hospitality was unsurpassed. The photos don’t really do the place justice, but I’ve included them anyway. The only downside is that my wife now wants me to bring her here too. I think I will, because it was so good.

We had two young children with us, and they were looked after well. The room was spacious and well appointed, and the food at The Red Lion was fantastic. I’d recommend the chateaubriand steak, while the children loved the fish and chips. There was a very good wine list at reasonable prices. The hotel is luxurious but still cosy, with friendly staff who go the extra mile to make a stay special. It’s a beautiful place in a stunning countryside location. We’ll definitely stay again.

The meal was enjoyable overall, but my steak, ordered medium, arrived very rare. My husband ate most of it and said it was delicious, though he agreed it was definitely rare. When I told the waitress, she said she’d let the chef know, and that was all that came of it. The staff were professional, but didn’t seem especially engaged with customers or enthusiastic about being there. Our room was missing basics such as drinking water, and some details felt unfinished. The shower leaked badly and became extremely slippery when wet, which concerned me. The hotel is in a lovely location and has potential to be even better. For the prices, the service and atmosphere were missing that extra special touch. It’s a shame, as I’d genuinely been looking forward to our visit. We do plan to return and hope the experience next time lives up to expectations.
