Marriott Hotel Portsmouth

The rates felt very reasonable for such a quiet, comfortable stay. It was easy to relax here, with a peaceful atmosphere and no unnecessary noise. The rooms and shared spaces seemed well looked after, and the welcoming feel made it comfortable from the moment I arrived. A cozy place with friendly vibes and good value.

The Portsmouth Marriott Hotel worked really well for the UK-Spain ferry, with plenty of parking and spacious, clean, comfortable rooms. Staff were friendly, helpful and professional, especially those dealing with guests face to face. The accommodation and bar were excellent, and I’d happily recommend the hotel as a place to stay. I’d stay again, but wouldn’t eat at the restaurant. My evening meal was disappointing, which is why I’ve taken off a star. I politely, even apologetically, sent back fish that smelled off. The server was attentive and helpful, and I wasn’t charged for it, but I was told the kitchen staff hadn’t taken my decision well and had questioned it behind the scenes. After a long trip I was hungry and didn’t want to look for another place, so I ordered a curry instead. It was OK, nothing special. As a paying guest, I didn’t expect my judgment to be questioned for refusing food that I felt might put my health at risk. The meal was already at the higher prices you’d expect at a hotel, and I’d also chosen a £30 bottle of wine that can be bought in Spain for less than €10. That markup was my choice, but I still expected better quality. The rest of my stay was excellent and made up for that particular letdown, but I wouldn’t recommend the restaurant.

I was in room 620 for four days after an operation, and the reception staff looked after me so well. A special thank you to the man I think was called Jack, he deserves a pay rise. The hotel was clean and spacious, and the staff were great. I’d seriously recommend it to anyone staying locally. Thanks again.

September 2025: I had lunch and dinner at the downstairs bar, and the restaurant was nice. My room felt a little dated, though having a soaking tub was nice. The pillows were good, but the bed was quite hard, unusual for a Marriott. It wasn’t exactly uncomfortable, just not plush or luxurious. I spent one night here and was happy with my stay.
