About this property

Beautifully restored Tulloch Castle dates back to the 12th century; Mary Queen of Scots and many other rich and famous guests have stayed in this imposing fortress. Its elevated position proudly guards over the colourful market town of Dingwall just 15 miles north of Inverness, and the views of the surrounding area are magnificent. Many of the ancient castle features still exist including the dungeons and the original mantelpiece with its roaring open fire. One of the Highlands' top chefs skilfully prepares fresh local produce that is served in the exquisite restaurant. For those who prefer a more relaxed atmosphere then retreat to the Green Lady bar for a drink or home-cooked bar meal - available throughout the day. The bedchambers, most furnished in a traditional style to befit a castle, are spacious, comfortable, full of character and all come with private facilities, TV and tea and coffee station.

The three-course meals were delicious at every sitting, and we enjoyed relaxing with a drink in the cozy bar. We booked the Christmas package and had a fantastic stay in this piece of history. The staff made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. For a building dating back to the 12th century, it has been updated nicely, with modern essentials like new bathrooms and USB plugs alongside the historic atmosphere. Our bedroom was bigger than expected and stayed really warm. It's a historic castle rather than a luxury modern hotel, but it was worth the price and had everything we needed. Highly recommended!

The food was fantastic, and the Chef even took us on a castle tour after we ran into him in the hallway. We really appreciated that. From the moment we arrived, the staff were very friendly. Our room was gorgeous, very clean and well appointed. It's a beautiful castle hotel, and we'll definitely return. I'd highly recommend it.

We just got back from a three-day Christmas package, and wow, the staff were wonderful. Our huge room had a comfortable four-poster bed, and the bathroom had a bath, separate shower and wonderful hot water. The food was amazing, from the varied breakfast choices to the lovely dinners. Drinks were reasonably priced, with a good wine selection and a few great beers. I'd definitely recommend staying here.

Our parents' Oak Room was amazing, especially the hidden reading closet, and breakfast was nice. We booked the Mackenzie family Apartment for our family of four and the Oak Room as an anniversary gift for our parents. We stayed two nights, but wished we'd had more time to enjoy the rooms, grounds and history. We were glad to be shown to the Mackenzie Apartment, which is at the back, through the dining room and up a private spiral staircase. The tip to use the back door with our bags was much appreciated, so we didn't have to drag them through the dining room. The apartment was far larger than we'd expected for a castle, with several rooms and a bathroom just for the kids. We had the whole wing to ourselves, with laundry and storage below, so the hard floors and the kids being noisy while we looked for them weren't a problem. We could have used more coffee and tea in the room. The tub water was inconsistent, though that's understandable in such an old building.
