Those gammon steaks arriving on sizzling plates are what I remember most, along with the curry and steaks, all so good. I was staying at the pub on and off for a few weeks in 2015 while working on a development a few doors down in Yaxley. John was the landlord then.

The food was lovely, and the staff were just as nice. Our room was roomy and really clean, the shower stayed hot, and the beds were comfortable. Would happily recommend it.

The place was bright, clean and welcoming, with staff who were friendly and polite. Breakfast was tasty and cooked well. I had the belly buster, and passed the two hash browns to my partner, but still had two eggs, four pieces of toast, two sausages, two rashers of bacon, baked beans, a tomato and brown sauce. My partner went for the sausage sandwich with crisps. We’ll definitely be back.

There’s not much to walk to, though Diss is only a few minutes away by car and several nearby villages have pubs. The building sits on a busy road, but it was quiet at night. I’ve stayed and eaten here a few times, and the cafe food is good value with generous portions. The rooms are basic but comfortable, and the shower gets piping hot. It doesn’t feel like a traditional pub room, since the pub is really a cafe that opens every day and only serves evenings on Friday and Saturday. You let yourself into the room using a key safe. For the price, it’s excellent value.
