Breakfast was the only good part of the stay. In the room, the carpet was threadbare, the ceiling had large cracks, and the wardrobe rail and base were broken. The hairdryer didn’t work, and one wall light was hanging loose. The door was badly scratched around the keyhole, as if someone had tried to break in. The bathroom radiator was rusty and there was black mould all around the bottom of the shower. There was no hot water unless we ran the shower, but then the tap became too hot to put a hand under and we couldn’t get cold water. The TV sat on top of the wardrobe where we couldn’t see it from bed. The free Wi-Fi didn’t reach our room.

I wouldn’t recommend this guest house. The room had mould around the windows, water-damaged furniture, a damp-feeling bed, and cracked bathroom tiles. The free Wi-Fi didn’t reach the room either. We had to check in at the Caledonian hotel next door, which was full of furniture and other appliances, and the receptionist was rude and condescending.

The location was handy, just a short walk into town. We stayed two nights and found the place clean and very nice, with good room service.

We arrived early and got an upgrade, which was a nice bonus. The room was very clean, with lovely bedding and towels, and a comfortable bed. There was water, tea, fruit tea, coffee, hot chocolate, sweets and biscuits. The drawers could do with replacing, though it didn’t bother us since we didn’t use them. Breakfast was very nice, and the staff were lovely and couldn’t do enough for us. I’d read some negative reviews and wasn’t looking forward to the stay, but we’ll come back again.
