Hampton by Hilton Dundee City Centre

My upgraded corner room was so spacious it felt like more than one person needed, and the big windows were a nice touch. There was a busy road nearby, but I didn’t find it disturbed the room. The hotel is a short walk from the train station, restaurants and town centre. Staff greeted us warmly and explained everything clearly. Breakfast was a very basic Scottish breakfast. Some fresh fruit would have been good, as the options were otherwise quite hearty.

The room was clean and we liked the bedroom, and the reception and bar staff were polite, friendly and helpful. The downstairs area was lovely, and the bar food was good. But breakfast was a real letdown. Continental choices were very limited, the scrambled eggs were poor, and the bacon was tough. I asked both chefs for a fried egg and they said they couldn’t make one while looking away from me. The cutlery was so flimsy I had to use my fingers, and kitchen staff were hard to find. I only saw miniature muffins once, despite going down early. The porridge I requested was lumpy and undercooked. Such a pity, because otherwise it was faultless.

Breakfast had plenty of tasty choices, and the hotel had a warm, pleasant atmosphere. Staff were professional, very friendly and always ready to help, which made a real difference. My room was modern, clean, comfortable and well equipped. The central spot was handy for exploring Dundee. I had a wonderful stay at Hampton by Hilton Dundee City Centre and would happily choose it again on another visit. Five stars from me, and I’d recommend it for business or leisure.

My wife and I came from Inverness for just one night and arrived quite late. Luke gave us a lovely welcome and was exceptionally kind, friendly and helpful. After checking in, we stopped for a quick drink before heading out, and Daniel at the bar was just as welcoming. We had a lovely conversation with him. Short stay, but a great one. We’ll return. Luke and Daniel are a real credit to Hilton.
