Apex City Hotel

We were especially glad to have so many wall sockets, very handy, definitely a 10/10 for that. The room was spacious, and there’s a water fountain by the elevator with good quality water for filling bottles, which can save money and bottles. Victoria Street and the Castle are both very close, and most of the city’s sights are easy to reach on foot. We could walk to about 95% of the attractions. A really nice hotel in Edinburgh.

Breakfast had a big cooked menu, and we both found what we wanted. We also picked a few things from the continental buffet. The staff there were attentive and greeted us with smiles. We stayed in the castle view king suite for a short visit. It was beautiful and clean, with stunning views of the castle. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and approachable, and the service was excellent. We were also greeted with a little apex hotel duck souvenir and a complimentary coffee station. Thanks for making the stay so welcoming and enjoyable.

I’ve stayed in November, December and, just now, February. As an insider I had a city plus room. It costs a bit more than a city double, but I can’t really see a difference beyond the coffee machine and later checkout. There was no water in the fridge or biscuits, though I’ve had those on earlier visits. Small thing, but noticeable. For a hotel of this size, chain, location and price, I’d expect at least a bar. Instead we were directed to the sister hotel next door, so there was no chance of a nightcap. That was a real disappointment and not what we paid for. Even the Premier Inn around the corner has a bar and restaurant. It felt like paying hotel prices for B+B. I did get a good room rate, but that doesn’t make up for the missing basic facilities. It’s a lovely hotel in a great spot.

We slept well even though we visited in the cold season: the room stayed warm and was very quiet. It was roomy enough, well equipped and nicely designed, and the staff were polite and welcoming. The hotel sits right in the heart of the Old Town. Some rooms have a beautiful view of Edinburgh Castle.
