We paid USD 962 (GBP 713.70) for three nights as a Booking.com Genius Level 3+ member, so you can work out the nightly cost. The bedroom barely fits a double bed. Its window is right above the headboard, leaving the coldest spot above your head, while the radiator is behind the door. To open a shade for daylight, you have to climb onto the sofa because its pull cord is on the wrong side, and the other shade won’t stay up. The apartment looks onto an alley and parking spaces. It was cold outside and 17°C inside when we arrived. The thermostat was complicated, and since there was no staff on Christmas Eve, I used the manufacturer’s manual to get the heat going. Then I found the sofa blocking the radiator and had to move it myself. We were assigned BA03 and got the entry code by text and email on Christmas Eve. Getting there with luggage was quite a trek: up 10 stairs, right through a fire door, down 10, left and down 7 more, right through another fire door, down 7 more, along a bit, then up again to BA03. The first thing we saw on arrival was overflowing, foul-smelling trash containers at the entrance. The ad photos use flattering angles, while my attached photos show what it’s really like. Booking.com and other sites show photos that suggest a staffed reception, but after booking and paying, Braid Apartments requires you to download its app and communicate only through it, then tells you the property is unattended. That compromises the privacy normally offered when booking through Booking.com, and if there’s a dispute, the booking sites don’t have a record of those conversations.

The bed was unbelievably comfortable, with a mattress, pillow, blanket, and sheets that gave me that sweet spot where I sank in a little. I came from Australia on a UK trip in November 2025, and this was my first stop. While staying here, I slept 10-11 hours, sometimes even 12, though I normally get about 7-8 hours a night. The location was great for the shops along Edinburgh’s main street. There’s a bit of a hill, as you’d expect in Edinburgh, but walking around was easy. If I come back to the UK, I’ll stay here again.

We booked at the last minute after deciding that morning to go, and just went to the apartment to see if there was availability. Luca at reception was polite, professional, and so helpful in getting us booked in. The room was spacious and spotless, with everything needed for a lovely holiday and a welcome basket. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. There was a small issue with the shower door, but Luca came and fixed it straight away when I mentioned it. He was exceptional at his job. I’d definitely recommend a visit.

We chose this place because we wanted a self-catering flat as close to the city centre as possible, and it worked really well for exploring on foot. The price was high, which we assume was because of the timing and a major Edinburgh event, but the stay was worth it. The flat was spacious and laid out very well. Cooking was easy in the well-equipped, cleverly designed kitchen, with the dining table right beside the work surface. There was a washing machine, dishwasher, and oven, plus fresh milk in the fridge and a good range of tea and coffee. Daily room service was a lovely extra, as were the lit wardrobe, make-up vanity, and recycling box. The top-floor bay view was a highlight. We enjoyed our short Edinburgh trip and would highly recommend this comfortable, well-equipped base.

This serviced apartment exceeded my expectations. It’s right in the heart of Edinburgh, about a 10-minute walk to princess street. The apartment has everything you need, including daily room service and air conditioning in the bedrooms. The staff were very helpful and even let us in before check-in time. The only downside was street noise, especially on floor 1.
