Destiny Students - Shrubhill

Priceline lists this place as four-star accommodation, but local listings clearly give it only two stars. My room was barely bigger than a jail cell, and the mattress was extremely cheap and uncomfortable. There was no air conditioning or fan, and no soap, shampoo or towel in the room. Towels cost 5 pounds each. At $150 a night, it’s definitely not worth it.

The rooms are tiny, dirty and painfully hot, with no air conditioning. The bathroom was dirty too, and there was no soap or shampoo unless you paid for them. It was a complete rip-off, and I felt treated like a bum. This supposed hotel is crappy student housing, and Priceline.com shouldn’t advertise it as a hotel. They couldn’t even keep the hallway lights on. I’d probably have been more comfortable in a tent in a park. Save yourself the hassle and avoid this place like the plague.

The staff were very nice, and the location worked well for a visit to Edinburgh. The room reminded me of the student rooms you get in my country when you go to university. The main issues were the thin wall, which meant I could hear everything from next door, and the mattress. Still, given what we paid, we couldn’t really complain. It’s a nice option for young people, but probably not suited to older people who need or want more comfort.

I’d chosen this place for my birthday trip, but the stay was horrible. The building was very old and dull, the room was tiny, and there was no air circulation. The lumpy mattress was so bad I had to sleep on the floor. The view was of the dumpster, and the shower cabin and bed felt sized for a teenager. On the last night, there was a false fire alarm at 4:30 am. The receptionist only showed up after we’d helped each other out. I stayed two nights but couldn’t finish the trip, so I checked out. Avoid this place at any cost and report the Booking.com reviews, they’re fake! I’m contacting Booking for a refund.
