Doubletree by Hilton Edinburgh Airport

The warm cookie when we arrived was a lovely touch, and breakfast had a delicious range of choices. Staff were friendly, professional, and ready to help. The rooms were spacious, the beds extremely comfortable, and the whole place was clean and well organised. Being so close to the airport is a real advantage. We had a wonderful stay at DoubleTree by Hilton Edinburgh Airport and would gladly come back or recommend it to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

The restaurant alone would bring me back. The service was friendly, the place looked great and was well kept, and the food was fantastic. We had Scottish muscles with loads of flavour, crunchy yet tender pork belly bites, battered fish and chips, and a chicken kebab. The rooms were great and clean, and the pool and sauna were good too. It’s at most a nine-minute walk from the airport. A great place to stay and eat.

The airport is an easy 10-minute walk, mostly under cover, which made getting to an early flight painless. The staff were lovely, and the receptionist who checked me in was especially polite, respectful, and thorough. Sadly, the hotel feels tired and overpriced in ways the convenient location can’t make up for. My room seemed decent at first: spacious, plenty of sockets, and lighting that was bright without feeling harsh. The bathroom, though, felt old and merely functional. There was no air conditioning, and the fan was caked in so much dust and dirt I didn’t dare switch it on. The bed was oddly small, and the pillows took some figuring out. One disappeared under my head, while two together felt like folded denim. Dinner was a £34 pizza that looked partly burnt. A charred piece of crust seemed to have been snapped off before it reached me, but I noticed. It tasted okay, nothing more. At the LivingWell Health Club, the gym had the basics, though the whole place looked worn. The sauna and steam room were warm, but missing tiles left sharp points by the steam room seating, which made relaxing feel a bit risky. There’s a lot of potential here, and the staff are kind, but several parts feel neglected. I left glad of the welcome and glad I hadn’t turned on that fan.

A practical place for the airport, within walking distance. The beds were comfortable, the pillows lovely, and there was nice food and a bar in the evening. They provided water, though there were no tea or coffee facilities.
