Eden Locke, George Street

We were upgraded, and they kindly left Tony’s chocolate in the room along with a dog bed and bowls for my dog. The room was stunning, and I could’ve stayed forever. The staff were absolutely lovely, and the service was incredible, even though I wish I’d got names to shout out. My new favourite hotel in the world. Fabulous place, people, and service. I highly recommend it, and next time I’ll stay at least two nights.

The location is excellent, the staff are warm and friendly, and the ground-floor café serves tasty food, though the menu is small. I chose this hotel carefully for my first Edinburgh visit because of the good reviews, but my stay didn’t match what I expected. The bed was right by the entrance, facing open storage for clothes and luggage, so it felt like sleeping in a hallway. It was also wedged between two walls, one beside the main corridor, and restful sleep was difficult. There was no air conditioning. Opening the windows for air meant hearing all the noise from below echo through the narrow stone courtyard, even at night. The view was poor for a hotel with four-star positioning and pricing, and the dim lighting made the room gloomy. There was no bathroom ventilation, so towels stayed damp and the mirror kept fogging up. There was no socket near the mirror for a hairdryer, and the one elsewhere in the room was too far away to be useful. Housekeeping never came during our three-night stay, not even to change the towels. The friendly service and handy location were good, but the comfort didn’t meet my expectations for a four-star hotel. I’m glad others had a better stay, but I wouldn’t come back.

The apartment was really spacious, with a lovely view over Edinburgh, and everything worked well. It’s very central, around a 5-10 minute walk from the tram station for the Airport. I stayed six nights and would happily return. On the first night I wanted to cook, but couldn’t get the stove to turn on. I asked a staff member for help, and they came straight up with me and sorted it out.

I’ve stayed at Eden Locke twice now, and it’s a lovely place for a stopover. The rooms are immaculate, comfortable, and well equipped, and there’s a cute little cafe at reception. Everyone on staff is super friendly. The location is perfect, right in central Edinburgh.
