The location earned the two stars, and I appreciated having juice, milk and other breakfast items available, though eggs would've been nice. The room, though, felt old, cold and uncomfortable. Its door wouldn't open all the way, and the tiny shower screen let water spread everywhere. The worst part was the so-called double bed: two unattached singles pushed together. My partner or I kept sliding into the gap, and I nearly fell out. The sheets didn't fit, leaving the mattress exposed. We've seen hotels join two singles together properly, but this one didn't. We had a nice time in Edinburgh, just not because of the hotel. Check every photo before booking. I thought we'd get the nice blue room too, but we didn't.

The room was spacious and very good, with both a bathroom and kitchen, and it was nicely heated in January. Breakfast was basic, with things like cereal and cereal bars left out, but it did the job. Staff were very attentive, and we had a good stay. We chose the place because it's right in central Edinburgh, just around the corner from the Royal Mile. Parking is separate from the room, limited in size and fills quickly, so it needs booking ahead. The payment arrangement was a little odd: they charged the first night's stay a day early, then took the rest when we arrived.

The location is really handy. Tesco is just around the corner, Waverley station and Holyrood Palace are close by, and the Royal Mile is about a five-minute walk. Our room also had a washer-dryer, microwave and dishwasher. But the cleanliness and comfort weren't worth the money for us. We arrived 15-20 minutes before the 3pm UK check-in time and were told the room wasn't ready, which would've been understandable if the sheets hadn't later turned out stained, almost like a pee stain. We asked for fresh bedding, but they only changed the sheets. The double bed was two singles pushed together with a very noticeable crack, uncomfortable throughout our six nights. No routine visits brought extra toilet paper or clean towels. The heater's filter said it was critically dirty, which made the air uncomfortable. They also held £50 on our card at check-in, with no clear reason, saying it would be released at checkout. If all you need is a convenient location, it may suit. For cleanliness and the overall experience, I'd stay clear.

This is only about room 303, as I can't speak for the others. It was warm, with good-quality sheets and towels, and had the things we needed: washer-dryer, microwave, dishwasher, TV, air conditioning, closet and windows. When we put out the housekeeping card, the maid checked whether we needed shampoo, toilet paper or towels, vacuumed up hair and took the rubbish. The location felt safe and was very convenient, near Waverley station, Burns Monument and Holyrood Palace, with the Royal Mile an easy walk away. There was no view. We also barely fit in the bed, despite being normal-sized people, and the sheets weren't changed during our seven nights. At check-in we filled in forms, and after that we started getting spam calls from Polish numbers. They also asked to hold £50 on our card until checkout. It was a good experience overall, but I wouldn't recommend the room to someone overweight. I also wouldn't give them my mobile number.

The location was great, and I really enjoyed staying here. The room was clean and comfortable, with tea, coffee, cutlery, an iron and even a washing machine. I only missed having a tea towel for drying dishes. The bathroom was good, and the water tasted fine, though the hot tap can get extremely hot, so mix in cold water carefully. There's a lovely little café nearby that's great for breakfast. A few things to know: check-in requires a £50 deposit, returned at checkout for potential damage. I spotted some existing problems on arrival, including a broken floor door holder, a loose toilet paper holder and a mirror light that didn't work. I asked staff to come see them so it was clear I hadn't caused them. I hope they pay closer attention to room checks after guests leave. The safe had no instructions, and I accidentally locked my belongings inside. Staff kindly helped me get them out. The TV doesn't have Chromecast, which could matter to some people. The building looks a little old, though that didn't bother me much. Overall, the aparthotel was fine.
