For the same nightly price, nearby options like the Premier Inn down the road or Travelodge across the street can offer a lot more space and better amenities. The basic room here really is basic, with little room to move, a glass-walled bathroom that doesn't give much privacy, and doors that let through noise. I'd say it's better for a solo traveller. If you're staying with a partner, the larger upgraded room would probably make more sense. The room was reasonably clean, though there was a stain on the duvet and no bin. Reception staff were helpful and brought extra towels when we asked. Still, it's a decent, cheap choice for a short stay if being near the city's main attractions matters to you.

The lifts and hallways had a strong perfume smell throughout our stay. It might not be the hotel's fault, maybe it's an Edinburgh thing, but it was noticeable. The other drawback was breakfast: it's only continental and pretty bare-bones. The Hub in Marylebone has a full breakfast with protein choices and really good house-made porridge. The location is central, and you can walk to many of the city's main sights. The place was clean and the rooms had a surprising amount of space.

The staff were great, and the hotel is really close to both the train station and the castle. But the double room we booked seemed meant for one person. There was no room to move or open our suitcases, and using the toilet felt completely exposed. The glass door doesn't fit properly, so you can see the toilet seat from the bed. We could have found a much more decent room for about the same price.

The hotel is well placed for walking to most of the attractions, and the staff were friendly. Our room was small, as other people have said, but the bigger problem was the air conditioning. It made a constant noise all night, like water leaking, and didn't cool the room properly, so it got quite hot. The AC and the hangers were extremely dusty too. We mentioned the AC to staff but don't know whether anything was done. We asked for a fan, and that was dusty as well. We stayed over Christmas.
