Nira Caledonia

The room was cosy and comfortable, though it could use some renovation. The shower head bracket fell off the wall, the wardrobe knob came off easily, and there were old stains on the ceiling. Even so, I had a very pleasant stay. The hotel is in a lovely, quiet part of the city, the service was very good, and breakfast was delicious, with haggis too. Recommended.

Breakfast had a great range of options, and the local Scottish food we tried in a vegetarian version was absolutely amazing. My husband and I stayed three nights last month, and the place was comfortable, clean, and beautiful. The staff were lovely and very accommodating when we arrived before check-in time. An amazing stay, highly recommend.

The bathroom felt quite compact beside the spacious, well-appointed bedroom. Sound also carried through the doors and windows, so better insulation would help, especially when it's cold. I asked for my shirts to be folded, but they came back on hangers instead. WhatsApp was a handy contact option in theory, though replies were slow and inconsistent. There was plenty to like too. The hotel has a cosy, intimate boutique feel, and the front desk staff were welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was well prepared and made for a good start to the day. It's in a peaceful residential area, yet still an easy walk from Edinburgh's city centre. Nira Caledonia is stylish and welcoming, and my experience was positive overall.

The location worked really well: close to Stockbridge, but just outside its busiest stretch, so we could enjoy being near the lively area without all the noise and bustle. My partner and I came for a special anniversary, stayed at the hotel, and ate at the restaurant. I'd happily return to Nira Caledonia when I'm next in Edinburgh. The room was spectacular. The jacuzzi suite had an enormous tub and was warm and very quiet. A kind staff member carried my luggage upstairs and brought up a bucket of ice from the bar for cold drinks. Dinner was just as good as it could have been. I had the Chateaubriand, one of the best steaks I've ever eaten. Our server was gracious and explained all the ingredients, which were inspired by local produce and the season.
