Roy at concierge was fantastic, and the staff were friendly and personable. When I was ill, Marco, the Duty Manager, arranged room cleaning for a specific time. It was quick and efficient, and I was grateful, so I tipped housekeeping well. The room's carpet, though, was absolutely filthy. I wouldn't walk on it barefoot, and had to put up with it throughout our stay. I raised room 525's carpet with Marco. During the Fringe Festival, the fire alarm went off at 1 am on Aug 26 2023. We evacuated, then the next day asked what had happened, since the elevator apology gave no explanation. We guessed it might have been a Fringe Festival clown doing it as a joke, or a guest smoking in the stairwell. We think room service forgot our order, and we only got it 15 minutes after following up. The lobby is tiny, with nowhere to buy basics if you feel unwell, though there's a Boots nearby. I was glad the window opened. The bathroom had a modern update and enough counter space for toiletries, especially for the ladies, but the bathtub wall was high to climb over and you have to hold the wall bar. I'd suggest replacing the hotel's carpets with washable engineered wood for better cleanliness.

The staff at breakfast were helpful and professional, but the room's breakfast setting felt like a canteen. There was a generous range of tea, though my partner couldn't find Earl Grey. The room itself was comfortable, clean, and had a very comfortable bed. We stayed one night in room 121 on 13 /01/26. The cups were too big for the coffee machine, the shower head couldn't be adjusted so showering was awkward, to put it mildly, and the main light above the mirror didn't work. Downstairs public rooms looked tired and drab. We were looking forward to cocktails but couldn't get a vodka Martini because there were no olives, which shocked us. I've never stayed in a four-star hotel unable to make one. I had a margarita instead, which was OK but not what I'd been hoping for. The bar staff couldn't have been more helpful. We'd stayed here many years ago and remembered it as polished, high-end, and a pleasure. Given the cost this time, I'd suggest looking at alternatives.

The central location was very handy, and I honestly couldn't find anything missing. We stayed over New Year and had a great time. The rooms were a high standard, facilities well maintained, and the staff friendly and efficient. I'd very much recommend this hotel.

I was surprised to learn the hotel was built in the 1980s, because of its architecture. It fits the spot really well, just down from the castle on the Royal Mile. The staff were helpful and friendly, rooms spacious and clean, and the food gorgeous. There's also a small pool, sauna, and steam room, all great for relaxing.

Everything was close by from the Radisson Blu on the Royal Mile, so we could easily walk around. Our room was roomy, quiet, clean, and comfortable. Reception worked quickly and professionally, and the hotel seemed well run. Breakfast had plenty of choice and was excellent, with confident service throughout that felt focused on guests. The historic feel alongside modern comfort works really well. We thought it was good value and would gladly return.
