The location is great for walking to Arthur's seat, with a good view over Edinburgh and nice parks and restaurants nearby. Breakfast was huge, with what I think is something for everyone. It works as a hostel, but the rooms need attention: the heater didn't work properly, the water boiler was broken, and the window didn't close fully, letting cold air in. The carpets were dirty and the bathroom very old.

At Grant House, the shared bathroom and kitchen got very dirty. The place is cleaned only once every five days, and there aren't any cleaning supplies like a brush or mop. I wish they'd leave at least a mop to clear the water after other guests shower, along with some disinfectant. I just hope I didn't pick up a fungus from the shower. In summer the room gets extremely hot, but the windows only open partway. Right next to it, the building next door has a very noisy A/C unit, like sleeping beside a very old fridge. The building doors are always open, and it seems anybody can come and go. Laundry was a hassle too: the app wouldn't let me register under my name, the laundry card dispenser didn't work, and the reception's helpline number didn't work either.

A note for anyone checking in: follow the signs for RECEPTION CENTRE. Booking sites leave out this useful detail. There are two kinds of accommodation under the University of Edinburgh “Summer Stays”: Chancellors Court has en-suite rooms and is rated 3 star; The Residences are campus accommodation with shared bathrooms and are rated 2 star. The Residences include Turner House, Grant House, Lee House, Baird House, John Burnett House and Ewing House. The campus as a whole is called Pollock Halls. The listings for The University of Edinburgh “Summer Stays” are confusing and need updating. Only Google Maps business owners can make some of the edits.

The location is okay, right beside Arthur’s Seat, with plenty of restaurants nearby. This is student lodging during the year, so the quality isn't great, and it can be noisy. There's no sound insulation between the hallway and the room. Even other lodgers or students walking back drunk at 2am can wake you, even when they're not especially loud or rude. The place is open, but the map pin is wrong. It's at Pollock Halls Chancellor’s Court, in the small reception building just north of the St Leonard Hall "manor building". That's the building right at the campus car entrance, by the arm barrier and guardian.

Many thanks to the staff. The location is wonderful, the rooms are clean, and breakfast has lots of options. My stay was really amazing. You also get the chance to be among students and teaching staff, with stunning, picturesque places all around.
