We stayed three nights and would definitely come back, with more to see next time. It's a good base for the tours and castle visit we wanted, with everything within a 10-minute walk. The shop opposite closes at 11pm and was handy for late snacks and a drink for the room. Our bed was comfy and the room very clean overall, though there was black grime in a shower corner and a couple of long hairs on the bathroom wall. Both could easily have been cleaned, so it seemed the cleaner missed them. At breakfast, staff were friendly and attentive, checking whether people wanted empty plates cleared. The buffet was well stocked and replenished. Reception, bar and breakfast staff were all great. The only other issue for me was the radiators, which kept making a slight hissing sound as they came on to hold the selected temperature. It was the same in my mother's room. I need silence to fall asleep, though it probably wouldn't bother most people.

We won't return to this Travelodge. We booked two nights in a “superior double”, but the room didn't feel superior, and I've stayed in cheaper, better places around the area. We chose it for advertised parking and the walk to the Playhouse, but the car park cost extra and couldn't fit all hotel guests. We were lucky to find a space. We also paid £20 for a 12pm early check-in, arrived at 12:30, and still couldn't get into the room until after 1pm. Our room on the third floor looked onto scaffolding, with workers able to see in. It was very basic, and the old shower curtain didn't reach the bottom, so water got on the floor. Breakfast was overpriced and the cooked food was cold both days. We had to ask for condiments and teabags because they were empty, and the cramped dining area made seating difficult and felt rushed. Weatherspoons charges half as much and is far better. On our second morning the fire alarm went off, and staff seemed untrained. We were told to leave, then someone I assume was staff shouted at us to go to the evacuation point. The staff member with the pole was only just leaving the building, so nobody knew where to go. We hadn't been given any safety information at check-in either. I also saw that same staff member argue with a family whose child had an obvious disability. Their behaviour was appalling. At checkout I put down the key card and staff didn't acknowledge me or show basic courtesy. This was our first and last time here.

We had four great days in Edinburgh this January, and staying at this Travelodge made the trip easy. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and our window had a great view. The Old Town location is excellent, not far from the main attractions, though the city is quite walkable anyway. I'd seen very negative reviews about the rooms and breakfast, but we found our room clean and comfortable. Breakfast had a decent selection to get the day started. After this first visit, we'd definitely stay here again. Thanks to the Travelodge staff for making it pleasant.

We enjoyed our two-night stay with friends. The room was spacious, with one double and two single beds, a roomy bathroom, comfy beds, plenty of tea and coffee, and Kit Kats tucked into the cups. The hotel is central to Edinburgh town centre and an easy walk from the train station, landmarks and restaurants. Reception staff were friendly and attentive, asking each evening how our day had gone. We used the luggage store across the road twice, at £4 for the day, which was affordable and saved us carrying our bags. The main room bin was the one thing below standard: the bin bag's bottom was very dirty, with what looked like a fringe of hair in it. Beds aren't made daily, which is nice to come back to; clean towels were available if needed, and bins were emptied daily. Breakfast was an extra £11.99, so we ate locally.

Good afternoon, I want to make an official complaint and ask head office to look into how my complaint was handled at the Edinburgh Central hotel. I spoke to a Manager called Debbie about the customer service and my room. She discussed it in front of other receptionists and customers in the restaurant and lobby, rather than taking me aside for a quiet conversation. I felt very uncomfortable and thought the way Debbie spoke to me was unacceptable. She was argumentative, didn't apologise or show sympathy, and couldn't see my point of view. She also made a point of saying she wasn't happy that I'd left a negative review on trip advicer. I'm a paying customer and believe I'm entitled to leave a bad review when it's relevant. I booked the superoom, which cost significantly more than a standard room, for my birthday, for 12/02/2026-14/02/26. I stayed in room 315. On arrival, the receptionist said wifi wasn't included with my booking. My understanding was that wifi was included with the superoom, but I was told I'd missed the promotion for it. I don't understand why wifi wouldn't be included when I'm paying extra for the room. I also tried to check in at 2:50pm and was told I'd have to pay a £20 early check-in fee. I've stayed at this hotel and other travelodges before without a bad experience, so this was really upsetting and frustrating. When I asked for contact details for head office, Debbie told me to “look online”. Please investigate my complaint and forward this email to head office. I look forward to your response. My order number is 154395513. Kind regards, Sophie Taylor.
