Muthu Westcliff

We came for the panto at cliffs pavilion theatre, just 100 metres away, and I was pleasantly surprised after reading negative reviews. The old building clearly needs updating, but the downstairs reception and bar had the comfiest chairs and sofas, in elegant rooms that are dated. Everything felt very clean. The receptionist who welcomed us was lovely and attentive, and later served our drinks at the bar. Room 104 was huge, a corner room with fabulous sea views from two windows and an amazing sunset. The room was immaculate. The bed was comfortable, though the mattress may be ready for replacing or could use a topper. It didn’t affect our sleep. The bathroom was massive, with a whirlpool bath, great water pressure and plenty of hot water. Breakfast was self-service, with plenty of hot food. I didn’t have any of the cold items, so I don’t know what was available. Parking cost 5.42 and was directly outside the hotel. You book through the Ringo app, and reception has the details and numbers. I gave it five stars because the staff, location, breakfast and our room deserved it. We had a lovely four-night stay over Christmas. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the room was clean, warm and comfortable. There was a kettle with tea, coffee and biscuits. Towels were changed daily, as were the bins. Breakfast was very nice, with juice, cereal, fruit, yoghurt, eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, tinned tomatoes, mushrooms, hash browns, toast, pastries, marmalade, tea and coffee. It’s a 10 to 15 minute walk into Southend and only a short walk to the cliffs pavilion theatre. Thanks for making our Christmas a good one. Fingers crossed we’ll be back next Christmas.

We’ve stayed many times and it’s usually been a great experience. Reception can be slow, though. In the evening we waited a good 15 to 20 minutes before someone came to help. For some reason we were upgraded to a triple room. The extra single bed wasn’t needed, though we didn’t mind having the extra space. The room is always very hot, even when it’s 7 degrees in January, so we’ve had to use the fan or we’d bake in our sleep. The price and location were great for a show at the pavilion, £105 for two nights. I’d still recommend a visit!

I always stay at this hotel when I visit, and each time I leave satisfied. The location is convenient, and the service has been excellent. Staff are polite, attentive and ready to help. The rooms are spacious, clean and cozy, with everything arranged thoughtfully down to the smallest details. It left a very pleasant impression, and I’m planning to come again in February.
