Woodbury Park

The bedroom was clean, the bed comfortable, and the shower had great pressure. We had a lovely weekend away together and enjoyed the Aura spa and the hotel's other facilities. Dinner was the letdown: nobody at reception mentioned that the restaurant required reservations. It was mostly empty, but they still turned us away because we hadn't booked. With the bad weather, the remote location, and it being Saturday night, we ended up without dinner.

I wanted one quiet, restful night away from my 8-month-old, and just wanted a nice meal and some rest. Instead, with no room service available and every restaurant and bar fully booked, they refused to fit me in and told me to go to the village. I had to buy a very gross salad from the cafe hours earlier. The staff didn't seem interested in helping. The manager looked about 22, and I had to ask him to stop laughing because it wasn't funny. After I complained repeatedly, left reviews, and wouldn't take no for an answer, I did finally get room service. I felt the manager was afraid to upset the chefs and didn't have the age or experience to care enough to help. In the end, the girl at reception helped me. This trouble and the one-star review could easily have been avoided if staff had been trained to show they care.

The place is neat and clean, and the room is cozy and comfortable. The location is nice too. The pool was clean, but families aren't allowed to swim after 6pm, and under-16s can't use the jacuzzi. That disappointed me because my 6-year-old loves being in a jacuzzi and has been allowed into one at a UK water theme park. Breakfast was decent, with decent dinner choices too, but dinner service was very slow.

We've stayed at this Hotel many times, but our stay from 19 February to 20 February was extremely disappointing. The staff were attentive as always, but the ladies' changing floors and toilets were disgracefully dirty on both days. There were no towels for the swimming pool on Friday morning, though a very kind assistant eventually found one for each of us. There were no bags for our spun-out costumes either, and two showers were out of service on Thursday, so we had to queue. I'm glad this wasn't my first visit, because I wouldn't return after this. It was NOT the usual standard at Woodbury Park Hotel!
