The £102 we paid for one Saturday night felt like £102 too much, and I wouldn't return. We had booked and paid on the hotel's own website for a superior room, not through booking.com or another site. The building looked badly run down, with flaking paint and torn, filthy blinds. It had a Fawlty Towers on a bad day feel. We arrived at 1.00pm because the desk clerk had said the day before that this would be fine, but were told check-in wasn't until 3. We could wait in the bar and buy drinks, though. We eventually got a room at 2.30pm. It was tiny, with an awful bathroom and chipped, damaged furniture that looked like it came from a charity shop. It was nothing like the superior room in the photos, which had a big bay window and views in two directions. I went straight back to complain. The receptionist said they were fully booked, so I asked to cancel. She told me to hold on, then somehow found the "superior" room. It wasn't exactly the same as the one shown, but it was twice the size of the first cupboard they'd tried to give us. The maintenance and basic decorating were simply awful. We had no time to find somewhere else, so we had to stay. Don't do it.

The sea-front location made it an easy short walk into the town centre, and we enjoyed our stay. We were lucky to be upgraded to a "Superior room" with a balcony and sea views. It was clean and tidy, with a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was very good, and reception staff were friendly and helpful. It's a lovely old hotel with more character than a modern one, though some parts are a bit tired if you look closely. There's a big car park, charged at £6 a day. Maybe the time of year helped, but we got such a good price that there wasn't really anything to complain about. 👍👍

Sam and Sara made my stay special. They were both so helpful, and the service from them was amazing. Sam even reminded me of a young Basil Fawlty, the good version. Cheers to everyone, and merry Xmas. The hotel has a proper old school feel. It's simple, very clean and tidy, with clean, well appointed rooms and immaculate bathrooms. The main restaurant is stunning and full of character. The food was great, especially the breakfast bacon and sausages, which were sooo good. It's not a brand new hotel, of course, and you can see its age. But it's steeped in features and tradition. The location is perfect, and parking at £6.00 per 24 hours is great value. A brilliant stay all round.

The upgrade was a unique idea: I booked a standard room through booking.com and could bid for a superior sea view room. My £15 bid won. The room was spacious and clean, with a lovely sea view, a coffee machine and a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was self service and excellent quality. The staff were very friendly. Would recommend!

The location is superb, and our rooms were fine, with comfortable beds and plenty of hot water. My parents and I had a good time over our three nights, and we'd stay again for the location and good breakfasts. Breakfasts had an excellent, plentiful choice. Evening meals were good too. They tried hard to offer a fine dining type experience, though it was clear, and understandable, that the budget was tight. All the staff were friendly and efficient, and we absolutely couldn't fault them. What did let the stay down was having to pay parking fees for the whole stay as hotel residents, and the cleaning. Rooms are serviced only three times a week, which wasn't a problem in itself. But when ours were cleaned, they didn't empty my parents' bathroom bin. One of my parents has a colostomy bag that needs changing several times a day, so the bin was full to the point of overflowing. That was poor.
