The Old Crown Coaching Inn

The live band on our last evening was a lovely surprise, and the food was great. My friend and I stayed here for a few nights in September and found the staff and service excellent. As Americans, we felt lucky to end up here. It's a small town without many tourists, and this hotel was a highlight of our trip to England.

I had a great time at the Folly festival in 2025, with a wide variety of entertainment and bands in the courtyards. When I returned for New Year's Eve, the pub area was packed, with no room to dance. I ordered several G&Ts and asked for the same kind each time, but they were different every time, even though they hadn't run out. The evening would have been much more pleasant in the ballroom, which seemed perfect for entertainment. I can't comment on the food or staying at the hotel.

I had a meal there on January 2 and ordered the burger. It tasted like meatloaf, and there was very little brie and cranberry. 😅 The apple strudel looked lovely, but its crust was rock hard. Everything else was great.

Amazing value for money and sensational service. I'd absolutely recommend it. Chef Sam is phenomenal, and that was the best roast I've ever had. I asked for my beef to be cooked a little more because I don't like it too pink, and it came out perfect.
