The room wasn't cleaned thoroughly. Greasy marks on the furniture handles and dust in several spots left us with a poor impression of the hygiene. We were also disappointed by the bathroom arrangement at The Royal Hotel in Girvan. Booking.com clearly said the room had a private bathroom, but the toilet and shower were actually out in the corridor. Having to get dressed and go outside the room each time was inconvenient, and there were no hooks in the bathroom for towels or clothes. The stay didn't match the description or our expectations.

There was no cooked breakfast and no en suite. The rooms aren't fit for cattle, never mind guests, and for these prices the place should close and stay closed. This is a truly shocking hole. It lied about breakfast on Booking.com, and all the awful reviews are true. The Royal blames the booking platforms, but it's the hotel's fault for dressing a mutton hotel up as lamb. Don't even think about booking here. A glamping tent would be better value. Get a grip on reality, or shut the doors forever. It's YOUR FUNERAL!

The room breakfast was an okay continental one, but I wouldn't really recommend the place. It needs refurbishment, the shower area was dirty, and the bed wasn't comfortable.

Our continental breakfast was one of the best we've had, and well worth the money. The team were friendly and helpful, making an extra effort to welcome us. The rooms were clean and well maintained. It was odd that one room had its bathroom outside, where anyone could use it.

Paul's a nice guy. We had a nice room in a nice town, with the hotel about a 10-minute walk from the town center and 5 minutes from the ASDA & Exxon station.
