Clayton Hotel Glasgow

We’ve stayed here twice now, and it won’t be our last visit. The room was ready well before check-in, and we were greeted warmly. It had a fantastic view, and the beds were really comfortable. Tea, coffee, bottled water, and biscuits were replenished each day. We also enjoyed the delicious, reasonably priced food in the bar.

Manuel, the night manager, was a real star with customer care and professionalism. He went out of his way to help me figure out food delivery options, and I felt completely at ease with him. He’s a dedicated manager who sincerely understands and values what clients need. Seven stars for Manuel, he’s an asset to the hotel. The staff were very nice, and Clayton hotel is an amazing place to stay. You can’t go wrong.

Our Saturday was dreadful from beginning to end, and it spoiled what was meant to be a relaxing two-night Valentine’s weekend. We’ve stayed at the Clayton hotel a few times, but after this experience I’m not sure we’d return. Breakfast was already a problem. We arrived at 10:15 and there was a queue, with others waiting too. There was no orange juice, milk, coffee, bacon, sausages, or black pudding. Staff told us to wait, but after 20 minutes nothing had appeared, so we left. Housekeeping knocked while we were getting ready to go to breakfast. We said we’d be out soon, and they said they’d come back. When we returned around 4 in the afternoon, the room still hadn’t been done. Reception didn’t answer either of our calls, so we went down. We ran into the same room cleaner, who said he’d return that morning, and asked him to do the room so we could shower and get ready for dinner. Later, the room had been cleaned, but there were no towels at all. Reception didn’t answer the first call, but eventually picked up the second and sent someone with towels. Dinner had a limited menu, which was fine. My husband’s steak, ordered medium, was fine, but mine, which I’d asked to have well done, was very pink in the middle. A young woman apologized and took it away, then came back to say another would take 40 minutes. By then I’d had enough. I politely asked for the manager, but they weren’t there, so I spoke to the assistant manager. He was a poor man, and I was polite, but he heard about the whole day. He removed my steak from the bill and took my details to pass on my complaint. Looking back, the full meal shouldn’t have been charged. I expect there will be other complaints about breakfast that Saturday. The whole day was a horrendous mix of no breakfast, chasing housekeeping, no towels, and undercooked steak.

The room was clean and the bedding was so cozy. Staff helped us with our luggage and check-in, suggested places to eat, and were always welcoming when we came in late at night. They were absolutely amazing. I’d happily stay at this hotel again and recommend it to friends.
