Crossbasket Castle

The winter dinner and breakfast deal was worth every penny. We stayed overnight, and the food was superb. Staff were so nice, attentive without getting in the way. We’ll definitely be back.

We’ve already booked our Christmas party for 130 people at Cross Basket Castle, and I’m eagerly waiting for the Castle’s Spa to open. Well done once again to the Full Cross Basket Family. Thank you. We’re a corporate company based in EK, and recently held our Burns Supper at the Castle. It was a truly international evening, with colleagues from all over the world. Roddy the Piper provided the music and gave the Address to the Haggis, organised by Laura, which was described as the best ever seen. This was our third corporate event there, and each has been unique, making use of the venue’s wonderful range of spaces. Guests can take in the history of the original Castle, the fabulous Ballroom, the unique Spiral Stair Suite, the Halls and Grounds, and the lush, well-kept gardens. The food was perfect, as was everything else. The new building feels modern while still fitting its surroundings, and its many rooms offer a great night-life and an excellent place to wine, dine, and be entertained in Trocadero’s. The staff at Cross Basket Castle are second to none. Sarah-Jane and Laura make sure every event request is met. Graham gives guests a warm welcome, and Ryan and his team carefully make sure everything goes to plan. Lauren at reception has the biggest smile and encyclopedic knowledge of the buildings and everything in them. My son also got married at the Castle, and it really is a stunning hidden gem. We’ve enjoyed afternoon tea, lunch, and dinner there, and there’s nothing they don’t have.

Service was great, with everyone being attentive, but the afternoon tea food was disappointing and way overpriced. It tasted nice, yet the portions were tiny and nothing like the attached photo. We got cakes that were obviously from a packet, tiny pebble-sized scones, a teaspoon of clotted cream, and three tiny sandwiches. There was no loaf cake, and whatever was on the middle plate in the photo, I’ll never know. They shouldn’t show items they don’t actually serve.

The Trocadero’s restaurant was just okay for us, rather than the trip highlight I’d expected. I also really disliked the hair dryer. Still, we had a lovely time in this gorgeous restored castle, with rooms and shared spaces beautifully decorated to give it a cozy castle feel. The staff went above and beyond, arranging for both our rooms to be in the same building, ordering us a taxi, and accommodating our dietary restrictions.
