The noise ruined it for me. It wasn’t music or TVs, just constant banging and crashing from the room above. I was woken at 0900 on New Year’s Day, then again before 0500 the next day by very loud sounds, like furniture being shifted or heavy things being dropped. I told staff, but they couldn’t or didn’t do anything. The hotel is in a wonderful location, and the rooms are adequate for short stays, if a little small. It’s a shame, because I’d recommend it for a short visit without all that noise.

The room was the letdown. I stayed in Room 9, and it was basically a box with a bed and a tiny kettle. The shower had good hot water and pressure, and it was handy for a last-minute stay, but I wouldn’t call it three-star. The location is pretty ideal for public transport to major spots around Glasgow. It’s right by lovely Queen’s Park and close to Shawlands, with its supermarkets, charity shops, and other places.

The overnight stay was okay for the price. The bed was comfortable enough, the room was big, and the shower was nice. But it was extremely cold in the room even with the radiators turned all the way up, and I could barely sleep. The staff let the whole experience down. When we arrived, they said we couldn’t get out of the car to check in because of a medical emergency inside. That was understandable, and we were told someone would come to us in about ten minutes. We waited over half an hour in the car during a storm. Nobody came back to speak to us. Meanwhile, we saw two or three couples go into reception and come out with keys over about ten minutes. We had to ask those guests what was happening; they said they’d been allowed to check in and hadn’t even known there was an issue or delay. We don’t know why we were still being kept waiting, and staff never updated us after the first explanation. We arrived early after driving four and a half hours, but the wait made us late for our event. When we went to leave the next morning, we noticed scratches and damage to our car, and a plank of wood that had clearly fallen off the building and hit it. We alerted the staff straight away, but they were largely unhelpful for about half an hour. They said the building had been repaired recently and the wood must have come off in the storm. Obviously they can’t control the weather, but the repair hadn’t been done well enough if parts of the building were falling off. They couldn’t offer any resolution for the damage. We had to leave to start the journey home, so we asked for an email address and manager’s details. I sent an email as soon as we got home that day, and a week later I still hadn’t received a reply.

The room wasn’t very clean, and it was quite hot inside. With no fan or proper ventilation, it got uncomfortable at times. The location was very good and easy to reach, and we really appreciated the friendly, welcoming staff. The room conditions could be improved.

I’ve booked this place three times because it’s within walking distance of my locum work and so close to my workplace. The room was cold, especially when I needed to shower at 6am. I was near the owner’s room and could hear all kinds of noise, including a baby crying and family talking. It was really disturbing when I needed to rest. The only reason I booked here was the walk to work.
