This was my second year at charting cross on a university trip, sharing a room with others from my group. The beds were clean and comfortable, and the bathroom was decent. The location is perfect. We had no safety or security problems, and it was reassuring to have reception staffed 24/7.

Staff made the stay for me. There was always someone at reception, and everyone was welcoming and capable. I had a problem with my roommates on the first night, and the person I spoke to, sorry I don't know her name, sorted it quickly and brilliantly, with a smile. Breakfast was nice and had lots of gluten-free choices; the bathrooms were clean and comfortable. The hostel is clean, well located, and good value. I could have used a little more room and equipment in the shared areas, like cooking facilities. I was very happy here and would definitely return.

The hostel's location made it easy to get around Glasgow on foot, and there are plenty of public transport options for going further. I had a fantastic first visit to Scotland, and all three nights here were a positive experience. The staff were kind and helpful, especially Tiago and Rosanna, who made the stay special with some great conversations. I slept well, with a comfy bed and pillow, and liked having privacy curtains on each bed. The shower pressure and temperature were just right and easy to adjust. There were three places to sit, relax and eat food I'd bought elsewhere: the main lounge and two smaller seating areas on either side of the building. They gave me options, and I met some great people and had lovely, nourishing conversations there. A few things could use attention. The room door slams very quickly unless you guide it closed, and I forgot a couple of times, as did other people. I read another review mentioning this too, so it would be useful to have the doors looked at. The lockers were handy, but at least one was broken. I tried to be quiet using mine late at night, but it still made noise. There's room in the hallways, so moving the lockers out of the rooms might help while others are asleep. The room decor was dark, dated and quite dismal. A bit of colour and life would help. I only saw my own room, so I can't say how the others look, but it could use some brightness and TLC. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay :)

For the price, the hostel was very well kept and presentable, with limited facilities but good value and a very good location. I stayed three nights over Christmas, after booking a single bed in a male dorm for five nights. At check-in, Adam was polite and welcoming, then showed me to my room. It had only bunk beds, and I was assigned an upper one. I have medical issues and am registered severely disabled, so climbing the ladder several times at night to use the bathroom wasn't an option. All the lower bunks were occupied, and Adam needed authorization to switch me to a single room. A few minutes later Tiago, the manager, arrived and offered me a double room for single occupancy for two nights in exchange for my prepaid five-night stay. That worked out very well, and I booked an extra third night. It's not the Ritz, but Adam, Tiago and the whole team made this old man feel at home. Many thanks.
