The Travelzoo deal really made the prices work for us. We started with cream tea on arrival, then had smash burgers for dinner. They were lovely, though I would've liked more sauce. My wife enjoyed her calamari starter, and the dinner staff were great. Breakfast was excellent too. I asked for a particular dish that wasn't on the menu, and they made it for me. The breakfast lady was lovely, friendly and funny. We stayed in room 14. It was on the small side but fine for one night, and generally clean apart from one pillow with marks, possibly stains that don't come out in the wash. We had a good, pleasant stay, but without the Travelzoo deal I wouldn't have liked the prices.

The beef baguette was good, cooked to order in about 20 minutes, and the chips were superb, crispy outside and fluffy inside. The manager was friendly, and the staff were efficient. I didn't stay at the hotel, though from the dining area and photos, I'm sure it's just as good. I used to have lunch here when I was in Gloucester, but came back today for a drink and snack after five years. I was gobsmacked by the changes. It's much roomier now than when it was small and cosy but needed some TLC. They've done a great job: the main lounge is super, as is the smaller room that used to be the bar. Highly recommended. I'll be back soon.

The scrambled eggs may be the best I've ever had. Breakfast was superb, with both continental and full English options. We had beer-battered cod and chips, which was very nice, and bread and butter pudding for dessert. That was nice too, though the portion was small. We paid £109 through Travelzoo, which included £50 dining credit, breakfast and cream tea on arrival, so it was great value. The room was comfortable, warm and well equipped, if a bit compact. Staff were really friendly and helpful. We had a great stay and would definitely return.

The building had a quirky character we really enjoyed, and the small rooms were very clean. Dinner, though, was really poor, and breakfast felt mean. I ordered poached egg, bacon and sausages, expecting at least two rashers and two sausages, but got only one sausage. I asked for an extra one for our dog and was told we shouldn't be feeding him. Ten minutes later, they offered one for £3. It was Christmas Eve morning, merry Christmas, chef!

The six of us had lunch here last Saturday. Every meal was absolutely beautiful, well priced, and came with great service. I've just booked us in again for Valentine's Day.
