The slow-cooked beef was divine, the staff were lovely, and I really enjoyed the room. It's not easy to find good value in Scotland, maybe because it's so popular, but this place still has it. Thank you.

I slept really well in the lodge room, with its lovely country decor and very comfortable bed. The staff were welcoming and made me feel at home. The Ulbster Arms Hotel is right by the river, handy for fishing, and about 15 minutes from the Orkney ferry. The food was outstanding, especially the venison Balti, which was so delicious. A fantastic stop while touring Scotland. Highly recommended!

We found this place by chance after bad weather delayed us on the way to Orkney, and it turned out to be a rare gem. The Lodge is just across the beer garden from the main hotel. It has a private bedroom and bathroom, plus shared dining and lounge areas, plenty of space, and even a little refrigerator. It was just the two of us, but the setup would work perfectly for a family or a few couples. The hotel is convenient for both Thurso and John o' Groats ferry terminals. Breakfast was the best hotel breakfast I can remember, cooked to order with lots of choices. The restaurant and bar were lovely too, and the service was great. Highly recommend.

We were all full until dinner after a first-class Scottish breakfast, and the breakfast staff deserve a shoutout. The hotel has great historical pictures on the walls, so take a moment to look if you can. It's peaceful right on the riverbank, with a roaring fire in reception. The restaurant was incredible, and the staff were so friendly and took the time to spoil my child, which was lovely. It's just a few miles outside Thurso, making it convenient for the ferry from Scrabster to Orkney. Definitely a highly recommended 4 star hotel.
