The decking outside was lovely in the sunshine. Inside, though, it felt cold and damp, apparently because a bottled gas heater was running constantly. We stopped for lunch with our two-year-old granddaughter. My wife and I enjoyed our burgers, and she had fish fingers and chips. A mix-up meant a large cod and chips was made for her instead. They apologised straight away and offered to prepare the fish fingers, but I said it was fine and didn't want a good meal to go to waste.

The White Horse is a nice pub to stop at on a country walk, with a sheltered, appealing outdoor area that suits the village. The staff were lovely and attentive, and took care of individual needs. The menu has meat, vegetarian and vegan options. Ditchling Village is known for Dame Vera Lynn and the steep hill near the end of the London to Brighton bike ride, as well as the Bull and the White Horse Inn. The White Horse feels much less pretentious than The Bull. Prices are around what this review suggests, though baguettes and soft drinks would make for a much cheaper meal.

The room was really dirty, and the heating didn't work. We switched rooms, but it was the same there. The owner was rude, wouldn't accept criticism and didn't apologise. We stayed one night and there was no breakfast. Don't stay here. They should charge £100 for a room in this condition, or even less. Cheaper hotels are a million times better.

The roast was bland, and after we finished nobody came to clear the table. We weren't checked on during the meal either. Even though it was quiet, we had to order both food and drinks at the bar. The bar staff were friendly enough, but seemed poorly managed. Our Sunday roast visit to the White Horse was disappointing.

The back garden is a lovely sun trap, with plenty of room and good seating, and dogs are welcome too, which is a bonus. We went for a Father's Day Sunday roast. The food was all nice and the team working there were really great. They also make an excellent Bloody Mary! ❤️
