Breakfast was excellent, one of the best cooked breakfasts I’ve had in a long time, with lots of other choices as well. The hotel is close to the town centre, and my room was clean and spacious, with a large en-suite bathroom. Tea, coffee and bottled water were provided too.

We’d stayed at this hotel for more than eight years and had never had an experience like this. We left at 12.30am on Tuesday because we didn’t feel safe, and no one has contacted us to ask why we went early. It felt like they were only interested in payment. During our two nights, 28th and 29th December, the bar was closing at 4pm and the lovely blonde woman who greeted us offered us a bottle of wine and two glasses to take to our room. The room was clean, but the bed was horrendously hard. I couldn’t sleep and my husband’s back hurt. We were told to go to the Angel hotel if we wanted food. There were only six people staying, with no staff on through the night, and anyone could walk into the hotel.

The staff who are there are friendly and helpful, and I can’t fault them. The rooms are clean, but they don’t have as much provided as they used to. This hotel has slipped compared with how it was before, and it feels as if services are being cut to save money.

We had such a lovely evening at the restaurant. It’s beautifully decorated and feels luxurious, and the food was so good I’d happily eat there again and again. Everyone was friendly, and even the chef came out to check guests had what they needed. There was a large function in another room, so they apologised for a possible wait, but my husband and I didn’t notice one.
