The converted building has seen better days, and my room looked out onto the motorway. It did what I needed for one night, but I'd probably stay somewhere else next time. I'd ordered breakfast, but nothing appeared on my hotel booking, so none was prepared. Apparently I was the only guest who wanted breakfast. There wasn't a restaurant or bar either, though the website had mentioned that before I booked.

The rooms turned out better than I expected, fairly clean and probably bigger than we needed, but getting there meant navigating long, maze-like corridors. The rest of the place was a disappointment from the car park onwards. It looked nothing like the photos, which seemed about 70 years old. Maybe it was lovely back then. Inside, there was a damp, musty, wet-dog smell. Check-in was simple and the staff were polite enough. We wanted a drink to start the weekend, but the bar had apparently been closed for years, and there was no food. Reception sold crisps, protein bars and nuts for £2.50 a pack or bar. They gave us directions to a pub and an Italian restaurant, but both were closed when we got there. We found somewhere else by searching in the car and had a lovely meal and drink, then went out for the evening. In the room, some plug sockets didn't work in either room, and there were bottle tops on the bedroom floor. One room's fridge was fine; the other had expired dips left by a previous guest. There was no hot water at the hand basin. In the morning, my shower was okay, but my husband's and the shower in the other room had no hot water. There was only enough for one person. The photos set expectations far too high. I wouldn't stay again, and I'd tell people not to rely on those advertised pictures.

The rooms are basic, about three-star, but had what we needed for an overnight stay. There was no power socket beside the bed, which could be a problem if you have medical equipment to plug in. We were offered an extension lead after the lovely receptionist checked every available room. It wasn't ideal, though there are USB ports by the beds for phones. We waited around 15-20 minutes to check in because no one was at reception. Calling the hotel didn't help, the calls kept disconnecting, though we could call each other. Suspicious, haha! The place seems to have potential for meals, but there were no signs anything had been cooked recently. Parking was good, with plenty of spaces to choose from. If it's properly raining, the entrance floods, so watch your step. I didn't. The bathrooms had pleasant hand wash and shower gel, so no need to worry if you forgot yours. The taps had decent pressure, but the shower barely dribbled despite trying its best. The motorway is close. Traffic was audible with the window open, but not too intrusive, and we couldn't hear it with the window shut. WiFi was pretty good and didn't need a password. They offer a sort of continental breakfast, including cheese, but we didn't fancy it. There's a Toby Carvery nearby and other cafe options, if the weather gives you a day without sun. Ask if I've missed anything.

We stayed two nights. The location was nice and the staff were pleasant, and both the room and bathroom were clean. The radiator didn't seem to work, though it stayed warm enough to sleep. The bath was nice, but the shower only ran cold. Breakfast was a small, basic continental selection. There isn't other food available at the moment, so you'd need to order dinner in or find somewhere else to eat.

I felt unsafe here and checked out. There were men standing outside smoking and staring at me, and the whole hotel smelled of smoke. A local restaurant owner also warned me it wasn't a good idea to stay. I was in Huddersfield for work and my usual hotels were fully booked. I'm not usually fussy, I just need somewhere to eat and sleep, but on arrival I was told there was no bar or restaurant. The website is an absolute fabrication. Maybe this was once a nice hotel, but it isn't now. Families and women travelling alone should not stay here.
