Good location and clean, but it felt more like a hostel than a hotel. The rooms were very basic, the windows draughty and the beds uncomfortable. There was a shared kitchen, but no tea or coffee facilities in the room. The bathroom was fairly modern. The only real positive was the polite ghost, possibly a French nun. My partner was coming upstairs and opened the door when a woman’s voice said “merci beaucoup,” but no one was there. He felt a cold sensation right across his shoulders. He wasn’t scared or drunk, just shocked by it. If you’re a ghost hunter, the experience might make it worth a stay.

The building itself is lovely, with old wooden walls and stairs, and the internet was very fast. The heating worked perfectly too. But the management seems weak and greedy, and the work that’s been done looks cheap and poorly finished. There’s no reception, so I was lucky to find a contractor who was kind enough to show me to the office. The details and access codes are sent by email, so make sure you check yours. The mattress was one of the worst I’ve slept on. I could feel all the springs and metal wires, and it was impossible to sleep on. The sheets were worn, though they smelled fresh. The towels looked used and had hair on them, so I gave up on showering. I’d rather be dirty than use someone else’s grime. The bathroom light sensor was faulty, leaving the light on all night and wasting electricity. The wooden floor has been redone and looks good, but the workmanship is poor, with gaps between the planks. The room had no desk or table and chair. Those would have helped, though I could manage without them. Plastic blinds didn’t look as good as curtains and drapes would have, but maybe I’m expecting too much. The corridor got very noisy when people walked through. A carpet would help cut the sound, but I assume they’ll sort that out in time. An okay place with plenty of gaps, though it has promise for the future. Fingers crossed!

I stayed at Endsleigh park hotel for two to three months while working in Hull, and it was a great place to stay. The staff were professional, helpful and a real credit to the hotel. They were very accommodating whenever I needed to add a weekend or extra days to my booking. My room was clean, tidy and warm, and the shower was warm too. It was peaceful and quiet, with excellent cooking facilities for making your own meals. Prices for longer stays were excellent.

The people who run the place are what keep me coming back. Their support has been outstanding every time, from the welcome to the thoughtful help, and staying there feels like coming home. For the past few years I’ve been at Endsleigh Park Hotel, Hull, twice a year, for more than two weeks each visit. It’s a quiet retreat in four acres of well-kept gardens, close to the University and lively Newland and Princes Avenues. The city centre is a bus ride away. H.N.

A comfortable place with a minimalist, IKEA-like style. It’s a hybrid between a hotel and self-catering, with a separate kitchen if you want to prepare food. There aren’t tea or coffee facilities in the room. Some rooms have their own bathroom and others share one. WiFi and a smart TV are available. I’d recommend it.
