Toravaig House Hotel

Mia was especially helpful. When we mentioned we planned to leave very early on checkout day to hike the Storr, she offered to leave packed lunches for us and added a lovely note. We spent two nights at Toravaig house during our time on the Isle of Skye. The room was very cute, the bathroom was nice, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. It was a wonderful stay, and we'd definitely come back.

Come on, I booked several weeks ahead, drove all the way there, and found the place closed for off season. Why was booking even possible? They said they'd tried to call a few days earlier, but I was abroad with an American phone number, and they hadn't emailed me. They said they'd moved my reservation to a different hotel over an hour away. That left me scrambling to find somewhere else at the last minute, and they refused to cover the price difference. Not cool at all. That's no way to run a business.

The best part of our sea view Torabhaig room was the mattress. It was plush and gave us a great night's sleep. The room itself was cozy, but the shower had dirty grout and a huge showerhead with very little room around it. I'm 5'6", 110lbs, and felt claustrophobic. Service was below average. Staff seemed annoyed while serving breakfast, perhaps because they were understaffed or because a large group was staying at Toravig, but the attitude wasn't needed. When we returned after days out, reception didn't greet us either, which felt unwelcoming. In the morning, it was no use calling reception because the staff were busy doubling as restaurant servers. Would I stay here again? Probably not. If the service were top notch, I'd feel differently.

We enjoyed our quick stay, though we wished we could have stayed longer to relax. We arrived late and used the booking app to let the hotel know our arrival time had changed. They also advised us about dinner at Duisdale, which was lovely. Breakfast at the hotel the next morning was very good and peaceful.
