The room was tidy and cosy, with good water pressure in the shower, and I enjoyed staying here on my own. It’s a quiet little place about 10-15 minutes by car from Keswick and close to helvellyn. You can hear people driving to work during the week, which is expected, but traffic dies off at night, so there’s no need to worry about it. The sister pub, the "kings head" I believe, is a minute up the road and good for food and guinness. I added breakfast there and got a fry-up for £3.00. I’d visit again.

The mocha and cake were both delicious. We stopped at this cafe while cycling past, and it was just right for warming up.

Our vehicle broke down 600 miles from home, leaving us with no option but to have it towed. I emailed three times from different addresses and also contacted booking.com to cancel a week before our two-night stay, but was still charged the full amount. I’d hoped to rearrange the dates and come another time, but after that experience I won’t be visiting.

A lovely breakfast, spotless and practical rooms, and staff who were genuinely friendly and welcoming. This was a brilliant base for walking, and we had an amazing short stay. We’ll stay here again.

I didn’t feel like I was away on a trip at all, more like I was in a dorm or someone’s spare room. There’s no room service, hardly anyone at reception, and the room wasn’t cleaned. “Breakfast included” is misleading. Continental breakfast is available on site, but for a hot breakfast you have to go to another building down the road and pay an extra £3.
